Excellent work, UK. 3 men charged with stealing food from a rubbish skip

'significant public interest' - yeah, right...

also if you watched the bbc2 show on Iceland. they stated they always prosecute regardless.

most big shops do not bother, but Iceland does.

if it had been any other supermarket its probably they would not be charged.

but if Iceland insisted i do not think the police had any other option.

no different, except it's quite obviously something iceland didn't want. And just because it's an offence, it doesn't mean it's a good offence to have in place, and like fuck is it in the 'public interest' to charge people for stealing food from a rubbish bin.

defending a cunt law, enforced by cunt jobsworths, is a cunt move.

depends what you do with the food? imagine this supermarket discards a huge load of cheese.. all the cheese is neatly packaged, looks brandnew, but cant sell it anymore cause has expired

imagine I have a small grocery store, collect all the cheese, and just relabel and sell it?

great topic for a what if scenario, but what if we were just talking about 3 men 'stealing' food to eat? and charged under a law from the 1800s regarding vagrancy? in 2014, from a rubbish skip?

indefensible course of action imo

^ sorry, too many people hide behind the 'if they can everyone can, if we allow this for 1 person we allow it for everyone, if this if that'

we need to get back to the days when everyone had a pair of bollocks and weren't afraid to make decisions based on case-by-case factors instead of checkboxes.

if you seriously think that in 2014, in a 1st-world country, that 3 people who were taking food from a rubbish skip should be taken to court because it's in the 'public interest', well, that's obviously your entitlement, but it does make me sad that people think this way.

The government has being eroding our right to think for ourselves for a long time now...

That's not just aimed at the current government either - It's been going on for a long time.....

Isn't it technically NOT yours, since you, hmm, threw it out? if not, at what point does it become not yours? when the garbage man picks it up? it then becomes property of the garbage collection company?

and wouldn't "stealing" stuff from the garbage actually be a public service? garbage collection company would have to do less work, less shit would go into the land fills, poor person would get a nice nutritious meal...

win-win for everyone involved...

uk law it is.

i agree its wrong and its wrong to waste food.

in zambia the supermarkets give waste food to the animals on the wildlife parks.

you would think supermarkets would give all food to homeless and animal charaties.

years ago i worked in a garage and i took anything written off to a small animal charity. i was suposed to bin it all. that place had a tiny shop so a big supermarket will have a vast amount.
