    Vatican Library Digitizes 4,400 Ancient Manuscripts and Gives Them Away for Free

    The Library was originally founded in 1451 AD and holds over 80,000 manuscripts, prints, drawings, plates and books printed prior to 1500 AD. The titles are all written throughout history by people who had different faiths or religions, from all over the world.

                              Church ideology as we are taught it represents truth, charity and goodwill. Keeping secrets and knowledge from its followers does not support this system of belief.

                              The bottom line is that there is nothing "holy" about the Vatican and it has only served as a focal point in a system of control developed over millennia. This is not to say that the entire religious system is corrupt, but those at the top for the most part are.

                              Is some regular person or business obligated to share their property with others? Not at all.

                              Should the Vatican (the center of Christianity... harbingers of truth, charity and goodwill) be held to a higher moral standard, championing the beliefs they themselves preach? Are they responsible for sharing any knowledge they might have amongst their followers?? Absolutely.

                              Don't expect much from them. They named their telescope Lucifer for fuck sakes, that should tell you something about their mindset.

                                                  They also have 80,000 manuscripts to scan, currently apx 4,400 have been scanned.
                                                  I hear that if you pray really really really hard, they can get all 80,000 done over night.
                                                  Until then I think they will need a little time to finish scanning them all...

                                                              The Vatican Library is much cooler in person. Been there and to what's left of the archives in Naples (the Germans burnt them on their retreated out of Italy) as well as to the Arch-Bishop's archives in Castellemare di Stabia for family research.

                                                              Planning on going back to the Vatican Archives in 2015. But I will check this out to see if there's anything online that they didn't have before. Thanks.
