    Your local music is better than industry trash

    I'm listening to a demo of one of my favorite local bands new albums. First new material from them in five years, and they're back with a vengeance it seems.

    This. Shit. Is. Revolutionary.

    And it occurs to me. These guys are seriously better musicians, have more heart, and write better music than 99% of anything the industry promotes. Name any current band in the industry, and chances are they can't touch these guys. Hands down, this stuff is on a level with some of the greatest music I've ever heard.

    I know I'm not the only one who thinks like this, and I do understand marketing and why the industry pushes music that is artistically void and sucks.

    I just wonder if the industry realizes that it's fucking itself by pushing mindless shit over actual art?
    I'm funner than AIDS, and easier to explain to your parents.

              I'm not posting their demo stuff without permission. That wouldn't be too cool.

              And my point is not who the band is. My point is that in your own local area, there's a band that puts industry trash to shame. True audio art. The greatest music in the world is in your backyard and the industry is selling junk.

              Their are no more Pink Floyds or Led Zeppelins. Think about it. Those bands were amazing and wrote albums that still actively sell 30 years later.

              In 30 years, no one is going to be buying anything that the industry is pushing today. In fact, people will barely remember it. Floyd and Zep will still be selling albums then.

              I just wonder if the industry isn't fucking itself by pushing trash that sells right now versus music that sells for decades. That's all.
              I'm funner than AIDS, and easier to explain to your parents.

                      I just don't see the value in squeezing everything you can out of something right now without having any thought for the future. The industry has to know that it's not creating and promoting artists who are going to stand the test of time.

                      Could just be me, but I see more value in solid, long term projects than I do in hollow crap and quick gains.

                      And honestly, I love music. True music. Not songs written by 7 people who don't play instruments and know jack shit about what they're trying to write. True music is true art. I see no real true art coming from the industry. It sucks.

                          Every band is a "local" band to some locality. And there's tons of great music out there, and its not all in your backyard.

                          When you say "the industry" are you talking about pop bullshit? Rock is better than it's ever been, and I'm not talking about Foo Fighters or Jack White. So many great bands of all different rock genres creating music.

                              I'm saying there are many current artists cranking out killer shit and they are on major labels. I've started many music threads here about several, most all of them get passed on by so I won't waste my time posting links to them. Obviously, people don't want that, they just want to believe that current music = dreck.

                                      that's exactly right. well, I use pandora for random music, but your point is spot on, set your genres and such and let the music play. the good shit is there.

                                          I've never used it. Does it have an option to hear unsigned artists? If it does, I'll be happy to go that rout.

                                          Right now, reverb nation and sound cloud get the majority of my attention because of the volume of unsigned bands you can hear on them.

                                                      Just like any other industry... You can be a great plumber but if you are a bad business person, you won't do well. Your band there might be great musicians but that's only a small part of it - they need to promote themselves properly. If they are in Lincoln, Nebraska, chances are they will never make it big. Then again, sometimes it's all about luck - Cindy Crawford was "discovered" while working at her summer job as a teen.

                                                      Music... I find there is enough new stuff that keeps me interested. At the same time, most of us like music from our youth, teens and late twenties... And with the Internet now you can find anything instantly. I love the 1980s bubblegum crap, and I am constantly rediscovering old bands I had long since forgotten about..... God I love Youtube - In fact, I stream music from Youtube all day long.

                                                              seriously though, Minneapolis has a ton of good local music. When I was down in Austin, TX in October, I don't think I saw 1 bad band. I do think every city does have their own unique sound.

                                                                  They are not on reverb or soundcloud, nothing on youtube, and not even a website. I'm going to have to have a sit down with these guys. At the very least, they could make a few bucks selling .mp3s online if they're serious about... well, anything.

                                                                  It's been five years since they did anything, that could have a lot to do with it. But still, the lack of any online representation whatsoever is fucking stupid.
