Only a few days to catch up to the big boys

Health care, no guns, hot chicks, better beers, great weed and... No worries! To me it's worth the higher taxes;) Canadia... FUCK YEAH!!!!

You should do a run of Microbrewery pubs in Quebec, you'd be surprised what they do up here.

Of course I was trollin a little when I said we had better (except for chicks) ;) Hell I will still pick up a Bud Light on a hot summer day

Here is a store I often go to that as over 350 kinds of craft beers from Microbreweries in Quebec and surroundings. http://maisondesbieres.ca/Accueil.html

Here is one of my fav from "Trou du Diable"

Spend a lot of time in Canada. IMO ... Gorgeous country, wonderful people & yet I could never live there. I always feel like I'm in The Truman Show.

Watching old television shows as if they are new, only so many minutes of non Canadian music, marginal food, an inability to control my own thermostat etc etc ...

I't makes me feel trapped.

Beautiful yes. Warm & friendly people ... yup. But I just can't get comfortable.

As a Canadian living in the US, I also felt like a fish out of water.

The sense of entitlement, the consumerism, the fear of having some punk pull a gun on you and the overly fattening food.

HOWEVER, I did enjoy the luxury, the beautiful weather, the easy going women and the diversity.

I suppose its all a matter of perspective and what you grew up with.

With all due respect, I don't think you have spent much time trying the new American beers. Even the macro breweries are buying up what they can and coming up with new beers to try and fool the general public. You are not going to see good beer advertised on TV; you have to know what to look for. You have a great opportunity to see what is happening and how different parts of the country have different styles with all the travel you do; but I suspect you enjoy wine more. Beer is the new wine.

LOL .. no.

For example, the last time I was in Toronto for a week. One of the employees from a large company that is well represented here showed my partner and I their condo downtown.

I commented on how hot it was inside and she said that in most of the buildings ( not houses) the climate is not controlled by the individual owners.

She also informed us that the Canadian government only allows a certain number of minutes of non Canadian music on the radio and has other limitations on television broadcasts. Apparently the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission through the Broadcasting Act of Canada requires this "censorship".

I found it odd & asked the owner of the company ( who is an attorney) about it and was told that if you are caught for example with a US based dish from Direct TV there are hefty penalties. i.e. it's illegal.

Too many people controlling / limiting access for me to feel comfortable. I'm not slamming Canadian's ... Aside from Mark, I find them to be likable people. And the country is simply gorgeous.

I just find there to be a pervasive apathy that makes me feel somewhat depressed & trapped.

And trust me .. I know there are plenty of things wrong with the USA & Mexico ... so feel free to pick away.

68 murders is low but when you consider population density it's not so great.
Canada's total population is less than the state of California but with a much larger territory.

Sorry, but I think your friend must be confused. Most condos and apartments have their own thermostats.
It's true that Canadian radio stations and tv must have a 'minimum' of Canadian content they must play - but that's not too hard for radio with the large number "Canadian" bands/stars...

As for direct tv being illegal - I can't really comment on it's legality, but I know a large number of people that use it and have never heard of a fine or penalty.

The thermostat thing is just some weird thing they had going on in that condo. This is not a widely-accepted Canadian practice, just sounds like some stupid setup one company is doing.

I think there may be around a 35% minimum Canadian content rule for Canadian TV stations and radio. It is less for areas close to the border. It is not censorship, we get all the good US shows, but basically they make us watch one episode of something horrible like Corner Gas for every 4 or 5 American tv shows we watch. lol.

We can get dish and direct here, you just need an American billing address to subscribe. Sort of a grey area. I don't think there is anyone that has ever been charged for paying for a US satellite subscription, with the exception of people pirating them. Direct sued everyone they could years ago, including Canadians.

Le Fin du Monde is an interesting one
Also I really like the Red Racer pilsner. http://centralcitybrewing.com/red-racer-beer/ Their Raspberry Wheat Ale is tasty, too!

better beer.. lulz. There could very well be more breweries in Colorado than all of Canada. Not only that, but Colorado beers continually top the charts - http://www.9news.com/news/article/34...-15-in-the-USA

Edit to add - We had 154 breweries in the state in 2012 - http://www.brewersassociation.org/pa...ies-per-capita

The last time I was in Denver I couldn't believe how many good microbreweries there were. Really enjoyed this place in Westminster... http://www.cbpotts.com/

"Even the macro breweries are buying up what they can and coming up with new beers to try and fool the general public." care to elaborate ?

YES, there are always exceptions to the rule, BUT, I was speaking about the majors, who dominate the market, noot about the micro nieches.
