Best/Fastest way to Transfer one external 2tb drive to a replacement 2tb drive ???

Long story short it is on its way out and still under seagate 5 year warranty so instead og going through the USB bus.... is there anyway for a external without physically opening em to do a speedy content swap? Clone the drive possibly??

Also the drive is lettered E right now the new one Windows will assign a new letter.... anyway on hell on Win 7 to have the new drive the same letter?/

You can manually change the drive letter in windows.

If youre not opening it up then any method to get the data off is going to be limited by the speed of the usb.

that is a coin toss as the new HD replacing it initially will be assigned next letter inline and the OG drive still has the letter reserved.. I ran into this issue years ago as well... I came up with no resolution at the time

I have a 650gb WD external that won't boot properly, so if/when I get the laptop to recognize it - I'll be dumping it to a new 2tb external. Same issue you're having. Wish I had an answer ATM.

I was thinkin' of simply having to go through the USB2.0 and going for a pizza while it copies.

Can't you change the drive letter on the OG drive to something else to free up that drive letter?
