very nice TED talk :thumbsup

Glad that all is well, I too still keep that Tramp Stamp CD somewhere.

Eight years ago it was a whole different vibe, while it was relatively easy to be a part of a very profitable and established business model, biz had it's own mystique, heroes and role models.

Now that the landscape and marketing game changed, some sold at the right time (around 2008), some simply took the money and ran as it became tougher to make the ends meet without changing their business (or their spending habits).

There are a few companies that are a step ahead of the pack, securing that the step is long enough either technologically or moneywise. And there are definitely areas where one can compete, given that one accepts the reality (which plenty still, even after years seem to deny).

Otherwise there's always a company or two that debuts - overspends, crashes and burns, some try to compensate low sales with more agressive approach, some get outed as shady, plenty of copycats around - I guess business as usual :)

Hey Hal! Almost everybody making money has been vilified by the frustrated majority who aren't doing well. GFY is basically class warfare and trolling. You would not like it here :2 cents:

Great to see you again hal. Will never forget our Godzilla fighting match

It's exactly the same. People who are making money usually don't have the time to talk all day on the boards. The people who aren't making money are always complaining that porn is dead and always have a wild variety of reasons (tubes, porn is free, waa waa waa).

Yes not much news in the past 5 years. In fact it is even boring, no news - same people same business models.
People watch porn for free in tubes (see the movie Don Jon: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2229499/ , the guy goes on pornhub and no any mention anyone would ever pay to watch porn videos). I can't tell how many sales Brazzer megasites are doing. For cams I can tell the sales are ok - these are not porn, are relationship addiction, which it will always work until man is not genetically fixed.
Especially on xmas day I witnessed a guy sending a $500 tip to the "gf" in Russia, special gift to her, from which I took 50% and I can not even say him thanks :)
Imagine if for each tip a guy send to the cam "gf", it popped up the cam site guy who also say "thanks for 50% of this", it would be quite a turn off.

The gold rush is over, and those who didn't have business sense have folded. Some of us are still here, still making money, but it's much more difficult today.

I am working in dating these days, but still running 200 adult blogs or something like that, still profitable.

ialreadyknow 12-27-2013 10:09 AM

Hard times. For me, dating sites are good. The rest is fucked.

Still making money.....that's it!

SlammedMedia 12-27-2013 10:57 AM

People just have to actually work nowadays to make money, that's the only difference.

Yanks_Todd 12-27-2013 11:19 AM

We are still going strong. When the tubes and economy tagged team the industry. We shrank our portfolio of sites and only offered properties with real value. We increased the quality of our content and refocused on customers and affiliate service.

At the height of the downturn we were down 70%, we have now regained all of that and will surpass our 2006 numbers in 2014 on a smaller number of properties.

For a time we were in fact working much harder, now I am working less then I was in 2006.

Sex sells and there will always be people willing to pay for quality.

Don't underestimate the power of building a brand and a way of doing things worthy of customer loyalty.

Hope to see you again one day. :)

Alice22 12-28-2013 11:10 AM

We are working 1000 time more harder than before, but i see some results.
Things started to pick up and i hope we will back one day to the numbers we did before. (just with much much much harder work)

lucas131 12-28-2013 12:21 PM

I ditto it all (Hi Hal!) but I want a link to the TED talk!

I've gotten a little sick and tired of their earnestness and positive pseudo-intello-can't-decribe-it shit... seems like even radicals become cotton-lined smoothies when they talk there...

Do we have a link here?

:D

SmutGiant 12-29-2013 06:24 PM

The landscape has changed a lot but there are still opportunities to be had by forward thinkers.

I'm pursuing opportunities outside of the industry but still check up on GFY for entertainment.

I watched your TED Talk a while back and also saw some meme or something of you on a hair dye package going around Facebook.

Keep up the good work! :thumbsup
