Anyone here use a Roku Box?

I'm thinking of getting a Roku Box for my office...

http://www.roku.com/

Do any of you guys use one of these, and if so, how is it working out?

Did you have to increase your high-speed internet speed to make it work?

Any pros and cons?

Thanks in advance!

It's great.

I only get about 17meg down because I live in the sticks, and it works fine, streaming in 1080P.

the only con was it didn't have youtube, but it does now, so no cons at all I can think of

I use it for Plex, YouTube and netflix. It's so cheap, if you fancy it, you may as well just get it and if you don't like it give it to someone for christmas.

I love it. Just ordered 3 more. Newegg.com has some great deals on refurb units. I got 2 for like $60. Make sure you get the newer models w/ the headset port on the remote if you happen to watch TV while your significant other is sleeping.

I use it more for streaming media from my main PC (via Plex). Plex is really great at ID'ing movies and TV series so the interface is awesome and automatically has info on every movie/tv episode.

Easy as hell to setup. Install PLEX and point it to your media content and you're good to go.

I have a couple and they are great. I always buy the best model, and my oldest roku is still working with no issues.

Mk808b

I prefer the MK808B. You can get them for about $45 on Amazon. I would buy a keyboard with it though. Just YouTube MK808B for more details. Its like having an Android phone on your TV.

I've owned 5 of them over the years. I like them so I continue to buy them even though every one of them eventually develops problems. The previous versions needed to be physically unplugged to reset when they would lock up. The new versions reboot themselves.

Why did they need to create a model that was YouTube compatible? If the device is supposed to stream internet-to-your-TV how is YouTube different?

I'm pretty sure it's a licensing thing, not a compatibility issue.

I started watching news and movies on Roku, but the picture quality in HD is so inferior comparing to Comcast/Dish in 1080i , I slowly stopped watching it. It is an Internet quality, even if set to 1080P output, you are up-scaling YouTube quality videos. It has a bunch of free strange stations (super old movies, religious, righ-wing conspiracy), and even CNN you have to play clip after clip to watch the whole news. Who has the time to keep browsing and pressing PLAY each time to continue watching? Content selection is less then mediocre. So, unless you use it strictly for NetFlicks, the rest is pretty much useless. If you compare with Satellite/Cable, you will be disappointed. Of course, you get what you pay for, which is $0 in monthly bills.

It doesn't stream straight Internet like you would with your computer, it streams through apps/channels. They had some profit-sharing issues with YouTube.

I have the 3 and mainly use it for Plex. I really enjoy it, but I'm having some Plex issues with BluRay quality videos (this is not Roku related.) Anyone here a Plex expert?

If you're streaming off the web, Roku is the best.

If you're streaming downloaded video off your LAN, the WD TV Live is the best.

I have one on every TV. Replacing them with AppleTV slowly but surely, though.
