********** : Moonbats VS Wingnuts

**********,

The most obvious signs of a Moonbat or Wingnut are :

Repeated attempts to redirect the negative focus of political topics towards an opposing candidate/elected politician/party.

Chumming
Throwing bait in the water and waiting for ( usually the same predictable ) predictable people to argue or disprove it. This involves posting "snippets" of copy & paste from articles that make a candidate/elected politician/party look foolish to downright criminal - until you read the full article, find out that the article was actually an opinion piece sourced from a blog or that it was a complete fabrication being forwarded in emails.

Character Assassination
Perpetuating what appears to be a relationship between a corrupt politician or ogranization and a candidate running for election, in an attempt to steer voters towards the opposition.

Moonbats and Wingnuts are guaranteed to return under new nicks after banishment for being nuisances. It is not unfathomable for such an individual to re-register as many as 50 times. His day to day existence revolves around the forum battles he wages.

i liked how it was a attempt to derogatorily and pejoratively label everyone while he, as a matter of course, remains above it all.

Surprisingly, there are very few Moonbats and Wingnuts here at GFY.

Moonbats and Wingnuts are primarily driven two things: a desperate need for attention and an illogical hatred for Democrats or Republicans.

Sometimes, this is a result of their upbringing. The most obnoxious Moonbat may indeed be acting out in defiance of his own upbringing with a militant conservative parent.

And sometimes for the Moonbat, it is an attempt to deflect attention away from his own past actions that he has yet to reconcile with, such as having participating in a war like Desert Storm.

Chumming? Really? I hadn't thought of that...

As a guy forever jammed in front of my computers and working, I somehow picked up an interest in US politics. GFY is a hangout for webmasters & adult peeps, so, I was posting what I was interested in.

None of my posts were meant to offend anyone here though I'm sure I did, and I'm sorry for that. But you have to admit that you have some real winners out there with Palin and Bachman and the like..... fortunately though it looks like their political carriers are on a downturn now so I'll have less to bitch about.

Merry Christmas.

**********, I'm not saying you were chumming.

Chumming is an attempt to agitate others into an argument by posting misinformation or a lack of facts.

Your topics are most welcome here as far as I am concerned. They are clearly made without an agenda.

I'm just offering you some insight into internet discussions about US politics.

And personally I agree with you about Palin, Bachman, Cruz, etc. The GOP has produced alot of clowns to represent them in recent years.

You don't have an "interest in US politics". You have an active interest in labeling 1/2 the nation and their positions on issues in some negative way and incessantly trying to drive that point home, fully ignoring the bias in your own views and the offensive nature of ranting, made even more so by the fact that you aren't even American and can't shut up about Republicans. Ranting all day long about Catholics, quoting things out of context, pointing out exceptions rather than rules and disparaging a massive group because you're Jewish and your beliefs are different,. makes you the exact same thing you are mocking.

Obviously, not a great way to run a global business.

Hi Squealer,

Completely not true. I don't hate republicans or even really make fun of them. I point out certain people in office who say or do what I think are really dumb things. I have never called anyone here "Stupid".

I like to think I'm fairly smart. I know some very basic, very general science as I'm sure most others here do. So when people like Michelle Bachman say things like "Carbon Dioxide is not dangerous", I face-palm myself a few times wondering how anyone like her could even get elected to very important positions with such basic facts wrong.

GFY is a harsh place to hang out on for sure. I use it to take a break from real work, to discuss biz topics but also other things that might interest me. Besides sex, GFY'ers talk about Science, Politics, Movies, Pop Culture, News, legal, general business, banking and money because all of these affect our core business in one way or another. Sure people fight but we also learn from each other too. When someone says something that I can't believe, I will Google it and read a few sources to see if they're right or wrong, then post my findings, just as many others have done.

And besides, this is only a forum. People can say what they want about each other here but it will rarely if ever, translate into a fist fight at a trade show. Most GFY'ers are like "Hey! You're the asshole on the forum who said blah blah blah... buy you a beer?". "Sure!" I say.

And so it goes...

It's not just the obvious insane people like Bachman either.

It's pretty much ALL Republicans and Democrats. They ALL talk about "Jesus" and God.
It's depressing to see our leaders believing in superstition and fairy tales and even governing the country with those ideas.

I watched Bill Maher's movie "Religilous"
It was awesome.

In one scene, he went in and sat down with a United States Senator. He asked him if he believed in the bible. The Senator, of course, said "yes".
Maher then asked him if he actually believed that Jonah was eaten by a whale. The Senator said "yes" because it was in the bible.
Maher asked if he believed that Noah put 2 of every species of animal on Earth on his boat...the Senator said "yes" because it was in the bible.

Just outrageous, and sad.

Maher asked the Senator if he could think of ANYTHING else from the Bronze Age of mankind that he would believe. The Senator said of course not.

But Maher pointed out that for some reason, the Senator DOES believe an old book of fairy tales written by a small Jewish tribe of goat herders.

It's not only ridiculous, but it's fucking dangerous for our leaders to run around professing their "belief" and "faith" in this bullshit.
The Democrats do it too.

Hell, every President in modern times has had to profess their belief in Christianity and be seen going to church and give interviews about their "faith".

I can't imagine that the founding fathers or Pres. Washington or Pres. Jefferson would be too pleased by this crap.

I do feel that Obama was given little choice but to impress upon misguided Americans that he wasn't a radical Islamist terrorist. Like the whole birther nonsense situation.

Misinformation spread by Wing nuts, of course.

If he was calling all Republicans stupid or foaming at the mouth with partisan extremist dialogue such as ~ you Republicons ~, I would be in your corner.

You do. 100%. You ceaselessly mock people who represent 1/2 the nations beliefs and values. You mock those people as being all sorts of things where you are then, in turn, mocking those who put them into office to begin with. If you call Jesus a retard and drone on and on and on and on about how stupid he was, you don't think that is offensive to who are Christians? It's no different. You are disrespectful and that's not a shocker here, however, you seem to be blissfully unaware of that fact.

Serial killers are usually quite smart. Most computer programmers are quite smart and possess zero social intelligence whatsoever. In fact, show me all the people who think "i personally think i'm quite dumb" and you'll have a pretty hard time doing that.

Irrelevant.

We all think we are awesome. We all think we have a great sense of humor. We all think we are funny. We all think we are more attractive than we are. We all think we are smarter than we are. We all think we are more liked than we are. We all think we are loved more than we are. Thats a simple trick of the mind to delude you enough to get you through the day. These delusions are what keeps you from putting a gun in your mouth and instead leaves you focused on spreading your DNA.

Quote:
So when people like Michelle Bachman say things like "Carbon Dioxide is not dangerous", I face-palm myself a few times wondering how anyone like her could even get elected to very important positions with such basic facts wrong
Again... your bias shows itself. You only point to one side, only mock one side and only think one side is insane. You lack the integrity and honesty to say "look, i know I am biased" or the intelligence/awareness to realize it. You point to extremes which aren't representative of anything and cherry pick poor choices of words, pick on religious beliefs or personal beliefs don't necessarily typify those who elected them as they are electing them for a wide variety of reasons.

There are two parties in the USA. Each are full of self serving, power hungry idiots. There is a perfect balance of idiotic behavior on both sides... hence the continued existence of the system. Of course, you only see that of one side... consistently, coincidentally also the side who does not represent your world view, your values, your economic views, your religion and so on. Shocker.

Quote:
And so it goes...
Of course, and on it will go with you because you will not admit your bias, you will not admit to what others are pointing out is a glaringly obvious (and quite annoying) pattern of behavior and you continue to rationalize that behavior and thus, continue the behavior. You are a alcholic saying "i just like to have a few beers".

Exactly what is bias about me, questioning why a woman who seems so dumb, can have such an important job? I don't think I'm picking on only one side when I say Michelle Bachman. Yes, she and Palin and the rest are all tea party / republicans but if there were democrats doing the same thing of course I would ask the same questions about them.

Try to see it from my point of view for a moment. I'm Canadian, not American. I'm neither republican nor democratic. When I point out what the Palins and the Cruzs and the Romneys say its because I just really want to know how or why any of these people have any credibility. I'm not picking on the republican voter - I'm picking on the republican in office.

Also do not mock anyone for their beliefs. Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean others should not. What I dislike are people and organizations that use "God" to further their agendas by scarring others into following them. Belief in religion is extremely powerful and it can be used in awful ways.

With reference to religion, i would simply say this... monotheistic religions serve a very vital purpose in the evolution of man and our transition from nomadic lifestyles to sedentary lifestyles... to successfully living together in larger and larger cities. That's when they came into being (roughly 10k years ago and later). Man could not achieve living together peacefully in large cities without moral laws, codes of conduct and standards of behavior - agreements and understanding as to right and wrong, amoral and immoral behavior, how to treat food, dead bodies, personal hygiene and ones health and lifestyle, and so on and so on. God is the ultimate cop. It's a very well studied phenomena that believing yourself to be accountable to an all knowing being makes you many many times more likely to act accordingly, whereas, otherwise you will simple save the bullshit for when you think no one is looking. Religion through history has always been a strong governing force, reliably keeping people in check. Pointing to the exceptions does not negate that fact. It's also worth pointing out that the vast majority of people on earth believe in a higher power... not just US Republican Congressmen or Senators.

Monotheistic religions a necessary step in the evolution of man which serve what should be a very obvious and clear purpose. Making fun of religion is like making fun of a bronze age shield. Whats the point, its the best there is at the time, thats why its being used. It's also quite fruitless since it so successfully capitalizes on many many illusions of the mind and functions of the brain which people consider religious experience and which aren't likely to go away anytime soon.

Mocking religious people as being stupid or ignorant does not put you on the higher moral ground, nor does it equate to higher intelligence or being more enlightened. In my view, it makes you equally ignorant and naive as you yourself fail to understand the function, purpose and motive of monotheistic religions to begin with.

I know your point of view. You have one single point of attack... Liberal vs Conservative. Thats bias. Democrats say just as much dumb shit all day long. You willfully ignore that. Canadian politicians are not better... you willfully ignore that. When you can demonstrate that's not the case, then i'll waste time further indulging your delusion.

the big bias you display is your lack of criticizing your own government and politics, in fact going so far as saying it's no big deal kinda thing.

i would not take issue with most all your anti-usa threads and posts if you took as critical of an aim at your own country.

Any belief can be used in awful ways. Hitler wasn't exactly an agent of Buddha or Jesus. Do you honestly believe that radical Muslims are so, because of the Qu'ran? The Qu'ran is essentially The Old Testament.... largely verbatim,... teachings which are also at the core of Jewish and Christian faith. Assholes are assholes. Damaged people are damaged. Angry people are angry. People that want to fight and kill, want to fight and kill. The "why's" of their behavior are never actually addressed, instead pawned off on an easy, black and white, oversimplified explanation - which is exactly what our brains prefer. Our brain hate conscious thought. It's cumbersome, its taxing, it takes a great deal of energy. Much easier to arrive at a super simple, cause and effect, black and white conclusion and put it to rest than actually ponder very deep and multi-faceted and immensely complicated issues.

Mark, you are definitely "taking sides" like most people do.

But since you say you don't...then I would have to ask you about Democrat Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney.
She makes Bachman look sane.

But I've never seen you come on here and talk about her.
Google her up. See for yourself.

And Nancy Pelosi is no prize either...but this Cynthia McKinney is absolutely fucking nuts.

The media and late night comedians here in the U.S. are mostly Democrat Party voters. So they kind of don't give coverage of her any "legs".

They prefer to make fun of the lunatics on the Republican Party side and keep the story going and going and going.

It's kind of a subtle way that they influence all of us.

It's like when MSNBC shows a picture of Pres. Bush...he's always got a "mean" look and a frown on his face. They pick out the picture that makes him look bad.
And then when they show a pic of Obama...they always pick out a picture of him that makes him look downright majestic! LOL!

And then Fox News does the exact opposite!

The fucking press in this country is a joke.

At least they USED to question authority. It didn't matter which party was in power, the press was all over their asses.
Not now.

When Bush was President, Fox News fawned all over him. And to be honest...CNN and all the rest voluntarily put their reporters in with the troops and did nothing but "Pro-USA" stories.
Not at all like the great job the press did in reporting the Vietnam War.

Nope, the press here in the U.S. now just takes whatever the White House hands them and reports it as "facts".

And whenever they step too far out of line with it...they are "slapped" by not getting interviews and face time with the President.

It's a sad state of affairs.

Fortunately, there have been no Moonbats or Wingnuts in this topic thus far.

If one should manifest, I will certainly point him or her out to yawl.

The final most obvious sign of a Moonbat or Wingnut is unhealthy Obsession.

Like that on par with Paul Markham's hatred for the adult online arena, which helped spawned the careers of numerous content producers that knocked him out of the spotlight.

Or that of venusblogger's fixation with DamageX and his BH forum.

The obsession can also extend to someone with opposing political views that poses as an obstacle in receiving the audience's full attention. The Moonbat or Wingnut makes it a mission to poison the entire forum against this individual through some form of character assassination.

good points, wish there were more dialogue like this... I get the impression for you that you are able to hold to opposing views? most can't... unfortunately the vast majority of GFY'ers can't see the bigotry and lack of humanity in their views and statements.

I think I can hold opposing views more easily than some. It's really hard to say. But I will say that I don't think that its a good thing. In my view, there is a larger detriment to seeing both sides and being comfortable with all the arguments and giving them equal weight than being blinded to one side and letting the bitter fight rage and the winning idea rise to the top. I also think there is an important distinction to be made of those "in the middle" in politics. Most, I would guess are those who simply don't have a strong opinion/emotional response vs those carefully weighing both sides. I think my issue is really that I don't have much of an emotional response and drive to act out on those responses.

I don't really believe in right or wrong and I believe our behaviors are what they are because they have proven the most effective when it comes to survival and reproduction. We are basically apes who's brains happened to stumble upon an adaptation that led us complex language. I don't look down or up to anyone because I believe everyone is a cog in the machine, each serving their own purpose and no single cog is better or worse as they all are required to make the machine work.

I am also secretly envious of those full of passion. After all, what is better... to be Neo and see the Matrix, or to be in the Matrix and never know and live a perfectly fulfilling life?

This is a great book to read on the subject of politics and religion written by a psychologist Jonathan Haidt who has dedicated his life to the study of moral psychology and emotions like disgust. He also wrote the Happiness Hypothesis which is also a really good book and one I made my GF read as well .

not at all envious..... my biggest issue in seeing both sides is deploring the intellectual arrogance of a polarized viewpoint and unadmitted bigotry... I do believe the pursuit of balance is a goal of intelligent life and that eventually all things will be equal
