He started off his conversation with followers ethically enough, highlighting the plight of women in Ireland, where abortion is illegal, in light of the recent reports of the country’s refusal to provide a safe abortion to a suicidal rape victim. She was forced to give birth."

If you think abortion is ethical, why would you disagree with someone who would have an abortion if they knew the unborn child had a severe disability? Does the reason matter?

Regarding his date rape comment... My ranking goes like this:

Girl date rapes me - bad (good?)
Guy rapes me gently (anus intact) - very bad
Guy rapes me violently - very very bad
Guy rapes me violently with a knife - very very very bad
Multiple guys rape me with a knife - the worst

Really? They are all equally as bad? Fuck no.

If i had the choice from the list I would choose Girl date rapes me, no doubt.

My issue with Dawkins has always been that Darwinism is basically his religion. He's no different than an evangelical preacher, only more smug and self-satisfied.

I assume he is not suggesting killing a baby (that implies once he is born), but rather abortion.

Personally I've never really seen the difference.

Agreed on that. Perhaps better to make an abort rather than make your child suffer for all his/her life. Yes I know it's a very hard decision so it must be left on the parents.

I found often parents with such children would ignore there other children.

Many (In the UK) also use them as a way to get money. One woman had a £75k lift put in her house for free on the NHS and never used it.

I won't go into any detail about those in my private life. I'll just say that I know a couple of children that have Down Syndrome. Without a doubt they have their problems like the rest of us, life's far from perfect. But it does seem to me they're much happier with the simple things than any of us "normal" people could be. So in a way it would seem to me that we could learn a lot from some of these handicapped about being happy with what life gives you.


As for the £75k lift; It costs more than £100 million to buy most military fighter jets and around £5k per hour to fly them. So get rid of one of the planes and there will be enough money to buy everyone in the UK a lift.

The independent is highly PC and interpreting many of his tweets incorrectly. The rape ones are pretty in arguably correct. Some rape is far better than other rape. I mean rape has been redefined to drunk sex now because the partner wouldn't have consented without alcohol (different from black out unconscious drunk, just I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't so buzzed sex). I'd choose 6 beer sex over raped with a knife sex any day.

Whilst there are certainly some ethics to do with bringing children in the world who might not contribute in the way other people contribute. He's on less firm ground here. I don't really think it's immoral to bring someone with DS into the world. More profoundly disabled people, especially where constant pain is involved, yeah that's definitely firmer immoral ground, but wile I wouldn't do it, can't really pull any strong ethical reason (they're mostly using resource vs ability to contribute to humanity at large, ie weak) why someone shouldn't.

There is a big difference between a fetus and a baby.

You can freeze a fetus but not a baby.

Nature (or God if he is a Sadist and under achiever) produces terrible biological mistakes which produce untold suffering.

Logical adults understand it is better to terminate.
