It pays to be leery of Russian programmers, this is true.

I guess since some people consider those two things one and the same while others see fine shades of difference and grey areas, and others see it black and white - where do you draw the line?

Well Malware is actually infecting a users machine with malicious code.

Any idea what the pop-under would do ?

Unfortunately asking that question was the question that could not be asked.

While adware is perhaps a reasonably benign form of malware, it still is defined by a large percentage of what would describe "malware" which is really sort of a broad and generic catchall term anyway. So, I am not going to split hairs over it which is why I am asking how others would define it.

Regardless, the idea that we would put any code on our site without being able to vet it out, or even ask questions, just be happy with the sign-ups, was enough of a red flag for me.

Oh yeah... and I asked if he was malware guy and he said yes.

So I guess I had my reasons to be cautious...:winkwink::1orglaugh

In that case staying away was the right thing to do.

Maxcash and ARS exit pops were not that bad.
We were ARS' #1 affiliate for years, i knew the exit chain pretty well.

No,the popups didn't give me any credit at all. So I didn't leave any money anywhere.

And because our traffic was so good, I still got the full signup rate. :)
I wasn't gonna leave a dollar laying around if I could help it.

I believe it was $35 a signup to Max Cash and $40 a signup to ARS.

We were making around 40 grand a month with each program at the time.

Back then Scottpb was paying me 120k a mth and Serge...over a 100k a WEEK ;)

Then I had FM and the general paying me quite well too ;)

You know , thinking about it, I never sent a join to ARS nor to maxcash , back then. Never dealt with them. They bought advertising for my forum though.Sent some traffic for a while to maxcash a couple of yrs ago though.

ahhh the good old days... ;-))

Yep...I would put one gallery a day up for them. That was indeed the good old days. :)

I noticed that since Nov. 15th that Max Cash has been a "red square" in my stats remote.
Just tried to go to http://www.maximumcash.com/ and it's not there anymore.

Its a BIG SCARY FBI pop-up that LOCKS up your browser and you cant get out of it (at least on mac)

It says that its an OFFICIAL FBI NOTIFICATION that your browsing has been tracked and that you have been seen viewing illegal websites - then it directs you to send hundreds (cant remember the amount..I think its at least 100) of dollars to a GreenDot Money Pak account number unless you want to do jail time.

anyone else seen this? I'm pretty sure Motherless uses it - how the hell are those guys not in jail too?

adendreams 11-25-2013 01:33 PM

I just read that they are calling it "Ransomware" and that with a PC it completely locks your computer (in some cases) even when you restart it - it comes back up...

Someone needs to do jail time over this scam.

Holy crap. That definitely takes some nerve.

C H R I S 11-25-2013 01:46 PM

Just fair warning when dealing with these people - they can be malicious and sometimes threaten (in some cases carry out) DDOS.

They use different names and once found out they come back under another name.

If it sounds to good to be true - it is.

It even evolved - they encrypt data on your pc and you have no choice beside paying for key to unlock data.I read how police station somewhere in usa had to pay ransom to get their data back. How they still operate without problem i just dont understood.

adendreams 11-25-2013 03:11 PM

DDOS? I would be more worried about getting polonium poisoned or some shit - must be russian mob.

How can greendot let it happen it the real question?

i'm with you on cutting it off at the knees with the guys processing this...maybe AK can help out here. From your other post...I've also seen it as Interpol instead of FBI, both are a bitch to remove. also, motherless doesn't promote it, their pops are sold direct to one cam buyer.

And therefore on the 8th day
When the day of rest had come to pass
R-N saw that more money could be made
So he claimed to invent the pop under
but it was not enough
so he claimed to invent the dialer
and he knew that if the cancel could be concealed
then the meek could not cancel
and he knew that was good

And then he looked upon his works
and he was pleased
because he would make more money
and everyone else would have less
so his power and place as the almighty was secure
praise R-n in the highest

Robbie 11-26-2013 11:06 PM

So what's the latest word on MaximumCash? Are they out of business?

The affiliate program site for MaxCash has been showing "red" on Stats Remote since Nov. 15th and the site itself doesn't come up:
