    Compare Cambodia with Thailand

    Hi,

Few questions for people who know:
    1. How would you compare C and T?
    2. How would you compare Phnom Penh with Bangkok? With Pattaya?
    3. What are the laws on prostitution and porn?

    Thanks

My Cambodian girlfriends always had big tits.

Cambodia offers quick paths to citizenship if you have cash.

I would not want to get caught shooting porn there.

Have fun. I've only lived in BKK and Chiang Mai.

you need about $65,000 to get a cambodian passport. You can buy and own land.

Thats not bad. I read of a service on one of the bitcoin threads / atm machine related, that it does not take long to get passport etc. One of the early investors, who later withdrew from bitcoin atm project has a company that helps get passports in several countries. Not a bad deal maybe.

I would never try to compare CB(KH) to TH and PP to BKK - they are on a totally different levels.
You probably should visit both to understand what am I talking about.

Regarding tourism, Cambodia is where Thailand was ten years ago. I absolutely LOVE Thailand but it's overrun with backpackers and package-holiday tourists. It's increasingly hard to get 'off the beaten track' there but much easier in Cambodia.

Interesting, I thought it was very difficult if not impossible for foreigners to own land in most SE Asian countries. With the rise of China I suppose it's only a matter of time before asian countries near them star to prosper too, partly from the filter down effect.

From what I've read construction is booming in Vietnam atm.

What about the nightlife? What are the laws on prostitution and porn?

"In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not." (Albert Einstein)

I mean, in Thailand many things are not allowed, but they go on without a problem. What about Cambodia?

Dont shell out $65K until you know you want to stay there

Fly in - Cambodia does Visa On arrival for about $30
before it expires get a "business visa" for approx $200 good for one year and extendable ans many damn times as you like - you can but a "business visa" from any moped rental store (go figure)
                        |know people who went for a week and stayed 10 years

                          Two totally different countries.

Cambodia isn't as 3rd world as it used to be. It's booming. The Koreans, Chinese, and Russians are buying literally everything and developing the country. Shooting porn there doesn't really work because so many people just don't have IDs. I've tried, 7 out of 10 of them couldn't produce an ID. Either they fear giving it to someone, or maybe they just don't have it. Who knows. Maybe that will change. HIV rates are through the roof there, and rising. Condom use is pretty much non-existent. Relaxed country. A lot of big breasted girls there. Fun country. Easy to stay in the country long term. It's hot and dusty in most places. LOTS more areas to explore and get off the beaten path than Thailand has. Watch out for land mines if you do.

Thailand is Thailand. It's really lost a lot of charm over the past 10 years, but if you can find a way to get off the beaten path, it's still nice. The tourist traps are super tourist traps. Whores galore. Shooting porn is illegal, some people do it, but if you get caught it will be expensive. Thais are xenophobic. Beautiful natural locations. Overall, a fun place once you get to know it. It has just about everything you need. Unfortunately, they don't want you here and make you jump through hoops to stay long term with a visa. We have super huge malls, state of the art movie theaters, excellent medical facilities, and so on. It's not 3rd world at all, even though the mentality of the people is still 3rd world.

Cambodia still has the charm that Thailand used to have many years ago. Visit both. Cambodia's infrastructure is too undeveloped for me to live there. Power black outs in some cities, slow internet, hospitals are not so good. Both are worth visiting. Both are illegal to shoot porn in.

Pure, yes. No doubt about it. For now anyway. Less tourists and Russians... depends on when you go. Cambodia will be speaking Russian within 10 years at the rate they are buying and devolving everything there.

Probably because they can. SE Asia is there for the taking if you have the cash. If the Russians, Chinese, and Koreans were not buying it up, it would be someone else.

I heard from a property agent I know in Thailand that a lot of Russians are coming in with backpacks full of cash. Dirty / laundered money no doubt, and the laws state they have to show the income from an outside source, but due to the amount of them paying in cash the agents have found ways to bypass the law, courtesy of paid off government officials at the land office and someone at a bank, of course. I'm sure Cambodia is a lot more relaxed than Thailand is, so it's a perfect place to invest money that you can't really do anything with in your home country.

Burma and Laos are on deck. The next 10 years will be exciting times for those who are able to get into those two countries and set up shop. Lots of money to be made.

The OP asked, "What are the laws on prostitution and porn?"

But to answer your question, it's always nice to sample the local cuisine. And given the time involved with eating for "free," it is usually much easier (and faster) to hire a cook for a meal or two.

I am now in Thailand, next month i go to Cambodia.
I wanted to go to the Philippines, but bad idea now.

Was in Cambodia 10 years ago when here wasn't even an ATM machine.
I liked it there, totally different than Thailand and friendly people.
But i must see now, i speak a lot of people with negative experiences now.

Phnom Penh can't be compared with Bangkok, looks less moderm and different atmosphere. At least, 10 years ago. I remember a motor taxi was waiting for us for 8 hours in front of the bar to bring us back to the hotel. Asking politely if we stayed longer so he could bring us back to the hotel also. He was happy he had two rides that day (bringining us to the River side and bring us back to the hotel) for 1 dollar.

Could be interesting to buy something there. The last 10 year Cambodia was booming, interesting to see how it is now.

Why don't you just go there? It is cheap to go from Thailand to Cambodia.

                                      everything is fake

Should of known it would come down to corruption, no questions asked etc. Makes perfect sense! I read recently that the Thais are starting to learn Russian because there are so many of them in Thailand now

Now Burma have opened up to the world I guess the sky is the limit!

I think the West is now in a permanent state of decline, especially when you compare it to the rapid rate of growth and construction in most of Asia.

Corruption makes the world go 'round.

It was strange to watch them come. Out of nowhere, couples started coming. The chicks were hot, they all walked around as couples. Then they came and came and came, signs slowly started going up in Russia, then a TV channel, then another, more signs, and so on. It was a full invasion. Strange to see happen. It was like Red Dawn. LOL ;-) Up north it's the Chinese, around the beaches it's Russians.

I used to come across Americans all the time traveling in Asia, now not so much unless I go up north where it's more young couples. But it's just a fraction of what it used to be. 1) It's a long trip. 2) People have less money to spend on travel these days, regardless of whatever recovery the western media goes on and on about. And those who do come seem to be budget travelers, staying in very cheap accommodations. Backpackers and the lot.

But travel among Asians is probably at an all time high. ASEAN is about to open up next year so it's going to be even a bigger mix of Asians roaming about SE Asia.

That said, Forbes just ran an article about Thailand and some other SE Asian nations that are heading towards another 1997 style economic crash. So there is no telling where it's all heading.

Interesting... I read an article that was very similar about China, I can't remember the name of the author. He was saying that China may have more toxic debt in their banks than Europe & American combined and the reason why they've kept it so well hidden is because China's banks are state run they don't have to divulge such info.
