I'm curious Mark on what you think about your beloved Democrats not voting in the Senate to pay the families of dead soldiers?

Don't get me wrong, the gop is fucked up but no more or less then the dems. I think they all should be tossed out. ..

Where do you get your info from.. The house voted on this today and it was 425/0 not a single person voted against it.. Even Fox News reported this correctly..

The house of representatives is not the senate. Check again.

Hi Wizzo,

Don't get me wrong the dems can be jerks too (Weiner is a good example). But in this case, it was the House (republicans) that decided not to pay.

As the federal government shutdown neared the end of its first business day, the House failed to pass a series of separate bills to restart funding for national parks, veterans' services and the city of Washington, D.C.
What is worse though, is this:

This self-serving batshit-crazy bitch Michelle Bachman actually had the nerve to use vets as a photo-up just a few days ago.

Why are you blaming the Republicans? the bill only got 33 Democrats? It got 231 Republicans and that's according to the article you posted, is everything like this that you post?

This bill was brought to the floor where it required a 2/3 majority. When the Dems voted no, the house then brought the bill up again under regular order the next day, where it passed with the majority. The Senate then tabled it, and the President threatened to veto it.

Not to mention the full appropriations bill for the DOD and everything that entails for the vets, military etc was passed by the house with over 400 votes in June. The Senate tabled that as well, and never took the vote.

Boehner will eventually have to give in. I read today that an informal poll shows if they put a clean funding bill on the house floor for a vote (basically the same bill they proposed only without the cuts to Obamacare) it would have the votes to pass. This shows that many members of the GOP are starting to pull away and realize this is a fight they can't win and every day that passes they look worse and worse.

Can fix the pipe because you Republican neighbor broke it. So you MUST raise the ceiling.

Since 1941 there have only been 5 years that the debt ceiling hasn't been raised. It has been raised every single year since 1963. Obama is not the first, nor the last.

OP is a guy that quotes cnn and nbc; both state run media. Have to wonder what it is he's smoking in that avatar.

This healthcare socialism is turning America into a part-time nation. According to a recent report by economist John Lott, 97 percent of all jobs added to the economy so far this year have been part-time jobs. Ninety-seven percent!

Obamacare is such a disaster that the people who wrote it refuse to live under it themselves. That's right, Congress has a waiver from Obamacare.

Responding to the people's will, Republicans first voted to fund all of government, except Obamacare. Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it.

Then the Republicans voted to fully fund the government, but merely delay the implementation of Obamacare for one year. Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it.

Finally, the Republicans voted to fully fund the government, but added a requirement that everyone live under Obamacare. No more special waivers for Congress and their staff, and no waivers for big business without the same waivers for individuals. Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it.

So as you can see, Republicans are the big holdup here.

Obama can use an executive order and get those vets funded

The website for Obamacare is not working 100%
Delaying what the GOP wants in Obamacare seems like a good idea

CNN is reporting their count is at 219, which would pass it. But that is only 19 Republicans out of 232 that would pass it. So I wouldn't say it is many members. Though most of those 19 are not a hard yes, or they could bypass Boehner today and get the vote. Peter King tried this a week ago, but couldn't get them to commit to actual record their vote to do it. If they were a hard yes today, it would happen, as Peter King would try again.

As it gets closer to Oct 17th, you could see these Blue State Republicans start to harden up though.

I see what you are talking about. Congress has been trying to back door everything, passing "special bills" to get "certain functions" of the government up and running again.

This is cute. You hold the entire country ransom while saying....

"How does the White House justify signing the troop funding bill, but vetoing similar measures for veterans, National Parks, and District of Columbia?" said spokesman Michael Steel. "The President can't continue to complain about the impact of the government shutdown on veterans, visitors at National Parks, and DC while vetoing bills to help them."

Really? What fucking games is the Republican party playing at this point? They shut down the government and then blame the President because he failed to "sign a bill for " veterans, National Parks, and District of Columbia".

Um, it's the Republicans who caused this and it's the Republicans who can fix this quickly. The Republicans are fault here, not the White House.

Try again kiddies.

I've been reading this for a week, yet Boehner has been claiming that there aren't enough votes. He's lying through his teeth, but hey, that's what politicians do.

GOP members that are funded by big 'establishment' corps have been defecting from this fool's errand as well. Their masters are telling them 'enough already, knock it off'.

GOP members funded by the Tea Party, - my bad, I meant the Koch brothers and their accomplices - are the ones holding the whole thing hostage.

I almost feel bad for the orange, often loaded, prone to weeping Boehner. Almost. He's a Country Club Republican who got the plum job (speaker of the house) at the worst possible time: when his own party is having a civil war.

What is craziest to me is that this was never really an issue in the past. It had always been raised without much fighting no matter who was in control of the white house or congress. However, ever since the repubs took back the congress in 2010 they have made this a huge issue. They hate Obama so much that they have turned everything they can into a fight.

It has virtually always been a simple procedural matter, with some occasional inconsequential grumbling. Since 2010, it has been a tool to re-legislate.

You might want to call the Supreme Court. They ruled that it's constitutional. You should really set them straight.
