Hard to say, but we are clearly moving towards the poorhouse. I wouldn't lend the US government any money.

our country has a long history of slow moves to the left and to the right it has been around so long it even has a name....pendulum politics. Its actually characteristic of representative forms of government like ours (we do NOT have a democracy nor have we ever)

right now we are in a swing to the left for sure

I think socially we are. Gay marriage is gaining ground in many states and for the first time ever Gallup had a poll that showed more people in this country favor legalizing pot than do not. These are just two examples, but there are other things out there that show the country is slanting left on social issues.

I also think as the income divide grows and the middle class shrinks we will see more and more people slanting left economically.

Are you kidding? The US is way too far to the right and it looks like the problem is getting worse.

he's not, and the US is. You can see it with the GOP embracing minorities more and more.. they want to stay relevant, they're gonna be moving towards more social projects

especially after they're forced to pull the plug on the military spending

quick answer, really, is to go after the corporations and tax dodging, and that time is coming

if these guys wanna move down to their sunny island banking paradises, or china, more power to them.

There is a reason they live in the Western world.

I think we are on our way to seeing a big shift to the left on social issues, and will see the shift move towards the right fiscally.

And poor people tend to left, because lefties are pro "give it away to the people".
So democrat leeching voters would prevail.

1 tax dodging corporate head is providing jobs to hundreds or thousands of people. Its better to doge some taxes and provide so many jobs than be caught and possibly fored to bankrupt.

Plus he is paying more taxes than "non dodgers" anyway.

And its sad to see majorities not voting for GOP and instead for the party of losers in life. Winner would never vote left. Losers who favors "take it from the rich and give it to me" would vote left.

You are on some good drugs. The US is drifting further and further to the right. Many of Obama's policies are old school Republican stances. Jesus, "Obamacare" is a fucking ultraconservative HERITAGE FOUNDATION policy but the country has moved so far to the right people can be led into believing it's "socialism".
Yeah Obama will warrantlessly wiretap you, drone bomb US citizens, get in bed with WALLSTREET, work to cut entitlements, not support the slightest amount of progressive policy but hey after testing the waters he now supports gay marriage so he's a "socialist". By almost any economic measure America is less "socialist" than 50 years ago and more right wing.

On issues like gay marriage and weed, yeah it's moving towards what you might think of as "left" as they are "liberal" policies but remember those issues are also issues right wing libertarians don't give a shit about. That's a whole other political axis.

You hear the crazies so you think its everyone but its not. Now I have to give the extreme righties credit they know how to mobilize so it seems its what the whole country thinks. Most of America is in the middle, they bust their ass at work and dont have the time or energy to care. More people vote for American idol than the president.

Check out what entitlements were as a percentage of GDP 50 years ago. The percentage continues to grow. Obamacare will cost the poor nothing, they will now get access to health services on the backs of the middle class mostly, how that is an ultraconservative thing I don't know.

sinistra, the Latin word for left, is the root for our word "sinister."

http://www.gallup.com/poll/152021/co...cal-group.aspx
Still shows conservatives ahead in 2011

where do you come up with such silliness!

the left doesn't write history, generations write history, the expression is *generations rewrite history*

moreover, higher education is most certainly not controlled by the left.

it's controlled by money.

Very true. A great new book to read about just how filthy and corrupt they are, is:
Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets -
by Peter Schweizer

The depths of their corruption has no bounds.

Yeah, the entitlement programs people pay their taxes into are growing as the population ages and medical expenses outstrip inflation. Congratulations you've just shown that we're living longer not "moar socialism".

I'll shit in one hand and hold out the other waiting for tickets from the right wingers here to go back to the 90% marginal tax rates in the 60's (you know, when there was a large middle class) and see which one fills up first.

The conservative part of Obamacare was mostly the mandate. Forcing people to take "individual responsibility" and of course, a massive gift to the health insurance parasites.
If Obamacare was "left" at all there would have been a public option to at least control costs. Which was supposed to be the whole point of the exercise, reduce the % of entitlements by getting a rein on medical care inflation. Instead they gifted 30 million people to the insurance companies. Classic corporatism. Early next year they'll increase the retirement age (but not remove the artificial cap on payroll tax which would fix it pretty much by itself) reduce corporate taxes and other measures in a "grand bargain" and Obama will pretend he was forced into it.

so why charge taxes at all?

what is the point of developing an economy, if you're just gonna give free passes to the biggest producers, cause 'they're producing the most'

that's outrageous, shortsighted, and we now see why.
