    New York Traveler with guns

New York (CNN) -- A man was arrested Saturday at John F. Kennedy International Airport after checking a loaded rifle and three other illegal weapons, according to a Port Authority spokesperson.
Keenan Draughon of Clarksville, Tennessee, was arrested after he checked two handguns, two defaced rifles and two unloaded high-capacity magazines, according to Port Authority spokesperson Joseph Pentangelo.
In New York City, it is illegal to carry a handgun or possess a high-capacity magazine. Rifles and shotguns are legal to carry if unloaded with a proper permit, according to Pentangelo.

Clarksville is pretty much nothing but military. Very likely either current or ex military. Looks like a story to give TSA a pat on the back so they can continue on probing, literally.

Dumb question here... If you legally own a assault rifle, but the airport is in a area where assault rifles are not legal... This means you cannot check your rifle at the airport for transport doesn't it?

Yea, TSA requires the "legal" firearm be in a lockable case and ammunition be in original packaging in separate case from firearm. Much less strict than many cities the airport itself is located in.

I can transport almost anything to the Tampa airport. If it's a "legal" firearm TSA inspects it, puts sticker on case then oversees case being locked and put on conveyor with other checked luggage.

In New York the problem is almost all guns are locally illegal and that over-rides airport regs.
