Anyone here met someone on a Dating Site?

How many people here turned to the net to meet someone on a dating site and would you tell someone if you did?

Seeing that many of us spend so many hours online and online Dating is now so mainstream it would be interesting to know how many people here met someone for whatever purpose and if they found it more natural/easier that meeting at a bar/friends party/vacation etc etc...

I met my wife on MySpace many many years ago. However, I've never heard any real life stories, first hand, of people using "traditional" dating sites. I have seen a few documentaries where men have met women on AFF/eHarmony/Match.com etc. Between Craigslist and Facebook, I'd be surprised if anyone used them for legit purposes. My experience tells me that's its horny guys talking to one another about what they'd like to do if they ever met a girl on there.

Years ago when I split with my kid's mom I tried a site. Talked to a bunch but only met 2 of them. One was a mexican girl with great nipples, banged her in my car and at a hotel a few times as I had a sense she was a little crazy so didn't want her knowing where I lived, ended up telling her I was moving to Florida just to kill it. Long ago back in about 2000 or 2001 when I first started advertising AFF I decided to give it a try and see if it actually worked. Over the course of a few months I sent out probably 50 emails to women in my area. Most of them either didn't respond or they were fake profiles wanting me to join their site. I did have some that were legit. I ended up meeting three women of off there.

The first turned out to be lying to me. She had told me she was single, we talked for a few weeks then met for lunch. At the lunch she told me that she was actually married and she wanted me to bang her while her husband watched. I declined.

The second one was actually pretty cool. We never really dated or did anything, but ended up becoming friends and stayed in touch for a while until she moved to a different state.

The third one was a very good experience. She was a single mom with a job and didn't have a lot of free time. All she wanted was a guy who would go out with 2-3 times a month, have fun with her and bang her brains out. Mostly she wanted this when her ex had their kids. I ended up being that guy for about 9 months. It was a fun, no strings kind of relationship.

AFF Horror Story

My Girlfriend's brother met a girl on AFF. They started dating and she was so friendly to everyone. She moved in with the brother and they were always inviting us over the dinner and she'd would always wear something see-through. Wild sex. They even got busted having sex in the middle of the road, a block from home.
They married and talk about a 180. No more invites for dinner. My GF and her had been friends. That was over. She started treating him like shit. Drained his bank account.
He called one night wanting us to write down he was being beat up by her. We called the cops and he was the one arrested. He got out of the troubles, but she took him to the cleaners. She showed up in court with a walker. But when she came to get her stuff, my GF videoed the move. Several times she was away from the walker.

ON FB I found a girl from junior high. We used to dance at the school dances. She invited me to visit her in Arizona. Told my GF and she said go. Got there and her ex-boyfiend had just started seeing her again. Ended up being an uncomfortable weekend.

Yes!

I ran a BBS called "Datamate" back in the 80's, first on 2 x TRS-80 Model 4's, and then later on 2 x IBM PC XT's's (2 machines for networking and live chat purposes). I met my GF Tracy through it and we've been together 27 years.

Some wicked tales here. I particularly like Marks and Silentknights stories about the BBS - cooool those were the days before the interweb thingy....

We have women join our system and they get hit the shit out of initially especially if they upload a pic so we added a ghost feature so they can browse in peace but most dont know how/or bother to use it ;-)....but at the end of the day they join to meet someone i guess.

Ive met people in the early 2000's but went for local niche not global mainstream.

Re FB, I think facebook has definitely opened peoples minds to meeting and dating online however it appears some dont want to date others outside of their circles on FB maybe because its not anonymous or they are afraid the prospective date could see way to much about them once they are added as a friend ( mean a date isnt necessarily a "friend", yet right?) or, in the case of adult dating, its not allowed anyways on FB and therefore wont help for guys and girls not looking or a traditional hookup. I might be spelling out the obvious to some on here but others reading this not in the dating space might not have thought that through...

And talking of anonymity, many of the female profiles on our client sites dont choose to upload images, even without their face in the shot or either upload in private gallery as their only image and we are working on new ways to help keep peoples anonymity should they choose to remain private but publicly accessible.

Another question - If you had a profile on a site and met someone through a different place/site, would you lave the old one active?
