When is the last time you have taken a prescribed antibiotic?

I feel like wehateporn, but it's probably been about six years for me. I've been "in bed" sick twice since then, which seems pretty good to me.

    Are you a pill popper?

When I was a kid and didn't know what they were. I've had doctors try to push them on me since, even warned me that not taking them wasn't an option, but I've always sorted out problems with Garlic, Bee Propolis, Tea Tree Oil etc. I like to trust in my own immune system rather than nuking it out of sight with antibiotics.

I'm not completely against them, but I only want to use them when they're really necessary e.g. Bacterial Pneumonia.

Keflex -- 2 months ago for a shin scrape that got infected worse than iodine would help ...

I have yet to have to have an infection that is antibiotic resistant. Of course they exist but some of the antibiotic drama is just that -- drama. Sometimes you need them -- but you don't for a minor bacterial chest cold that is what white blood cells are for.

But when you have a severe bronchitis should you be denied antibiotics until it develops into a more life threatening pneumonia?

Yeah, it wasn't fun. I toughed it out for 2 days, layering T3's and extra strength ibuprofen, thinking I was just being a wimp (as I usually am.) Finally went back to the doctor and he said I had dry socket and should have come in right away! That foul goop they put in the hole felt sooo good instantly! I felt like an idiot. :/

For me it was about a year and half ago. I got a cut on my leg that got badly infected. I ended up in the hospital and had to get IV antibiotics and then took another for about 30 days after that. It fixed the problem.

Before that I honestly can't remember when, it was probably 10+ years ago when I got really bad bronchitis and coughed so hard I actually pop a vessel in my lung.

A friend of mine nearly died from dry socket. He was in the military and had his wisdom teeth taken out. It got infected and caused him to have other issues. He suddenly had a major fever and was unconscious for a few days. the military hospital actually called his family and told them it was very bad and they might want to come.

Luckily, after a few days in the ICU he got better, but he was in the hospital for about two weeks from it.

I have chronic outbreaks of cellulitis and have to take antibiotics about 3 to 4 times a year and have been doing this for over ten years, I also recently had shingles and had antibiotics prescribed to me for that. I'm a very sick man.

                                  How do you get cellulitis?

There are many ways to get cellulitis. You can get it if you have:
Certain medical conditions. These include diabetes, peripheral arterial disease(*PAD), or a weak immune system.
Fluid buildup (edema) in the legs or arms.
PAD = Lowered blood flow in the legs, less white blood cells, more susceptible to infected skin cuts, scrapes ... Usually, a topical antiseptic iodine, Mercurochrome followed by neo tri or poly sporin ointments work. Trick is irrigating (cleaning the laceration (Hydrogen Peroxide is good), then applying an antiseptic and ointment for a few days so you don't get a skin infection needing antibiotics -- works for me anyway ...

Been about 7 years for me. I had a bad bout of bronchitis. Before that I can't really recall the last time I took antibiotics.

Nice to see though that a lot of people have wised up and have backed off from taking them for every sneeze like it seemed people were for a while there There were kids back in the 70's I knew whose mothers got them on them for just about anything, and some of these "superbugs" going around these days some 40 years later are resistant to antibiotics largely due to overuse by humans.

A normal everyday kind of cold is not a reason to be taking ab's, at least not for regular healthy people.

It got infected and caused him to have other issues. He suddenly had a major fever and was unconscious for a few days. the military hospital actually called his family and told them it was very bad and they might want to come.

Luckily, after a few days in the ICU he got better, but he was in the hospital for about two weeks from it.
