I've been kinda poking around it the last several weeks trying to figure out the best way to use it for my business model. I want to post stuff, but I don't want to break their rules either and to me they're sort of difficult to understand fully.

Do I understand it correctly in that it's more of a place to post samples of my own exclusive content, rather than sponsor content?

You shouldn't blatantly advertise in the forums but you can certainly include links to where your free content is located (tgp, blog etc) for specific model. You can also build a tgp for specific model and submit that link in the link lists for models.
