Ron,
Turkey is 98% moslem, but the vote was as close as 50-50 as one can get
(5 votes difference)

Hardly. While naturally I'd like us to be able to use Turkey, it doesn't necessarily serve their interests:

1. After the last Gulf War, they suffered a terrible recession.
2. They are extremely afraid the this war will result in a sovereign Kurdistan, and that will only encourage Kurds in Turkey to rise up.
3. And yes, we did renig on previous promises.

Last I checked pop, the vote failed. Also, and please correct me if I'm mistaken, during the latest elections, the group that won the most seats was the group we'd refer to as the "most fundamentalist" If they had not won, the vote would have gone the US's way.
Some would say that this is the begining of the slow slide towards losing turkey just as they were about to become part of the civilized world.

;-)

And what is wrong with Kurds getting an autonomy. The poor people never had their own land and were supressed and killed by the Turks. I think the whole world and especially Turkey owes to them big time.

Actually, the anti american and anti war propaganda was started by the democrats who were ranked second at the election. Also, the third party had 2 min anti american videos broadcasted on the biggest tv channels of Turkey for over 2 weeks. The video clips were mostly attacking to the current government and explaining how America did not keep its promises in the first war. The last words appeared at the videos was "Is America attacking to the Iraq or Turkey".

Believe me, those most fundamentalist moslem guys are America's best friend in Turkey.

Turkey will not help U.S. if Bush continues to play with kurd terrorists against saddam.. those kurds will attack Turkish forces with the anti aircraft guns that Bush supplied when your job is done on that area and Turkish ppl will never forgive U.S.

anyway Turkish forces are in the norh iraq with 1000s of tanks, troops ans special forces.. these are captured from CNN Turk channel yesterday..

pretending that this is true, kinda makes my point doesn't it?
Turkey isn't a country the US should be dealing with.

turkey has played a very impotant part during the cold war and desertstorm ... the US have made many promisses to them but havenīt kept any. this time they wanna make sure to get what they deserve before letting them in. eventually they will get it and revote ... that easy.

Hopefully , the US will slap them down for this non-sense.
the US has given turkey *billions* already. Pretending that the US didn't fullfill its promises is a lie.
"oh, sorry turkey, out of the billions of things we *gave* you, we forgot a couple. you're right, that makes us wrong"

-fucking dopes.

I think that's true. Especially right now with all this anti war and anti american propaganda that democrats driving, public opinion is changing about America. People in Turkey now thinks that every American is just like Bush.
