Hobby Lobby profits from abortion and contraception products

I'm not sure if this is hypocrisy or irony, but Hobby Lobby has a lot of money invested in products that create and sell abortion and contraception products...

These companies include Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, which makes Plan B and ParaGard, a copper IUD, and Actavis ACT , which makes a generic version of Plan B and distributes Ella. Other holdings in the mutual funds selected by Hobby Lobby include Pfizer PFE , the maker of Cytotec and Prostin E2, which are used to induce abortions; Bayer , which manufactures the hormonal IUDs Skyla and Mirena; AstraZeneca AZN, which has an Indian subsidiary that manufactures Prostodin, Cerviprime, and Partocin, three drugs commonly used in abortions; and Forest Laboratories, which makes Cervidil, a drug used to induce abortions. Several funds in the Hobby Lobby retirement plan also invested in Aetna AET and Humana, two health insurance companies that cover surgical abortions, abortion drugs, and emergency contraception in many of the health care policies they sell.

So I guess allowing employees to use such products are bad, but profiting from them is perfectly acceptable?

    Here's the article on Forbes.

So where do you see Hobby Lobby not "allowing employees to use such products"?

First of all, they pay for all other types of contraception, just not the abortion pills, and they just don't want to be forced to PAY for them. The employees can use them all they want to, no one is limiting their access in any way.

I have a constitutional right to bear arms, does that mean that my employer should be forced to pay for my guns and ammo even if they are anti guns?

I am pretty super liberal and I agree with the supreme court on this. Health care as a rule shouldn't cover non health related items. I don't like my premiums being higher so they can have free abortions or birth control. Go buy it like everyone else.

There are many people with disabilities to no fault of their own, both mental and physical, that have a near impossible time getting the equipment they need and the help that they need to live halfway normal lives. I just can't cry over someone not getting insurance funding for abortions and birth control, nor do I find it to be a "right" guaranteed by a written or moral constitution.

You are being rather silly about this. This has nothing to do with your constitutional right to bear arms. "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" is in the Declaration of Independence, but that doesn't mean my employer has to allow me to cook meth in a supply closet.

This is about religion being able to choose what medical benefits an employer is obligated to give to an employee. We have separation of church of state for a reason, and this needs to carry over to the work place. The employers religion should have no bearing on the workplace at all.

Again you are being silly. It doesn't say in the constitution anyone should pay for healthcare.

This is ridiculous. The employer's religion should not decide what healthcare benefits their employee gets. What's next? Right to life issues? Maybe after that my employer will tell me I cannot eat meat on certain days.

Yet you accuse Hobby of profiting from items their insurance doesn't cover when the companies are merely a portion of a mutual fund.

Have you ever owned any mutual funds? Did you know EVERY corporation included and EVERY product/service they provide?

You obviously didn't actually read the article. Which comes as no surprise.

And its also becoming quite obvious that you have no idea how a company selects a mutual fund. But you're a right winger so why bother with pesky facts when you can just 'go with your gut'.

Sorry Rochard but I doubt you'll ever convince Baddog or die hards to change their mind.

For my own 2 cents on the subject, I'd be willing to bet the owners of Hobby Lobby care less about women's health, and care more about imposing their own religious beliefs on others.

There are no hobby lobbies here in Montreal but if there were, I wouldn't shop there.
