    An old comrade in arms

...just called me. He is hanging it up after a little over thirty years of service. He is a W5 and flew a helicopter for the last 25 years and has served 7 tours between Iraq and Afghanistan. His retirement pay will be about $50,000 and he has a job lined up...if he decides to take it...flying a helicopter...but he said he may just kick back for a few months. He will be processing out over the next couple of weeks and then will be stopping by on his way home to Washington State. I have not seen him for about ten years.

The $50,000 is an error...it is $75.000 for thirty years. $50,000 is for twenty years.

Well he put in his thirty years...which is what I had intended to do until the first Gulf War put an end to my career.

It takes a special breed to make the military a career...especially those serving in Combat Arms units.

Now all you need to do is make up new GFY name so your "comrade" can use it to post stories and tails about your heroics, how you saved the platoon and how much he owes you for saving his life. Maybe, just maybe, both of you can go into wilderness and wrestle grizzly bear or perhaps catch great white sharks in the lake with your bare hands. Just an idea

If no one did it, would the world be a better place?

No, because that would mean there would be no people on it...

I live in the real world and I think that as long as the human animal exists on this earth there will be a military.

Think my father did over 30...now he's enjoying the perks, which include being able to fly anywhere via the military flights for free. This, unfortunately is bad for me since my parents could show up on my doorstep at any given time.
