What video size and length would cause less headaches? - GoFuckYourself.com

I have two choices here.

#1: 5.5mb, 1 minute clips

#2: 11mb 2 minute clips

I haven't used dial up for years. I know an 11mb clip is nothing for broadband users, but, is it too much for a dial up user to download? Do you think broadband users would get pissed at having to download piles of 1 minute clips? Oh, they are mpeg clips, and I don't want to use any other format.

Any advice/experiences/opinions appreciated.

Cause the dial-up users can use download accelerators to resume if neccessery.
It only takes them what 1 hour to download that much -_-

True. I also think broadband is coming on strong, and soon there will be more broadband users then dialup if there isn't already.

if you dont have proper 1 meg vids for your dialup users
it will kill your retention.

We had 2 versions of videos online:
the full version and cut up 10 meg pieces.

With this situation (even with 5 meg vids) you kill your
dialup users.
5 megs takes about 1 hour to download for a DU user.
Fuck download accelaroters.. still takes too long,

Not very convenient when you want a quick wank.
No worky.

10 megs takes some time on broadband as well:
Still no quick wank.

Your best bet is is having these 3 versions online:
- Full movie
- Cut up movie into 10 meg pieces
- 5-10 "highlight" cuts with lower quality with a max
of 2 meg.

This aspect isnt a 'detail' this is the difference between
good retention and no retention.

of a bad experience with videos they couldnt view
due to their size after paying big bucks.

Make sure you make clear during the tour or on the signup
page your site is also convenient for dialup users.

Thanks dude, that is good advice. I didn't think there were that many dialup users left.
