I will be heading to Bangkok in 2/3 weeks also and will stay in Thailand 3 or 4 months. Maybe Cambodia, Philippines or Vietnam also.
I was thinking to start in Bangkok and than to the direction of Phuket, cause on the other site (Koh Samui / Koh Chang) it is raining season. But what can people recommend me? I liked Koh-Chang very much last year and Koh Samui 9 years ago. This time i want to go to Chiang Mai, though i don't like to stay inlands but prefer beaches.

Chiang Mai and surrounding areas are nice late Oct - late Jan. Rent a car, head to a small town called Pai, the scenery along the way is really nice. The north is nice for 4 - 5 days of relaxing. They also grow poppies in the mountains so opium is easily bought, along with weed. Just don't get caught. :upsidedow
Right now Thailand is getting hit with a typhoon and a lot of areas are flooding. So make sure you spend some time looking into what ends up under water before you come. Bangkok might end up flooding again.
If you want beaches, hit the small, less visited islands. The big islands are tourist traps in every sense of the word.
If you want a real SE Asian holiday that isn't full of over developed, scamming crap holes, hit Laos or Burma. Thailand is cool if you want to screw whores or hit more remote areas / islands, but Laos and Burma are where you want to be right now. See them before they get ruined too.
