Another Obama Care Question.

Can you just Buy One Month say at the Platinum Level, and then get like some surgeries done, then cancel the insurance? ha Or even down grade to the lowest after you get major work done? I think the Highest level you only have to pay 10% of the medical bill up to a Max out of pocket??

Heres laceys answer from www.mikesouth.com

Hahaha… Nice try. I would do the same exact thing if possible!!
(Actually, a very large number of people do this exact same thing on the Gulf Coast during hurricane season. Therefore the property/flood insurance markets pretty much shut down once there is a “named storm” in the Gulf of Mexico essentially stopping people from buying insurance right before a hurricane.)

But, with health insurance there are “open enrollment periods” that have been set-up to combat this very issue. Meaning, other than a few exceptions like having a baby or getting married, you are only allowed to purchase or change plans during these short “windows” of time.
Currently, the open enrollment ends March 31st, 2014. This means after this date you are not allowed to switch between plans or drop your plan and then buy a new one at a different level. You would need to wait for the next “enrollment period” to buy insurance.)

If her info is helpful for you drop by and leave her a thank you comment....She is new to all of this but a very cool chick and a good writer.

Thanks for the answer. I will get to your Blog Tonight Mike.

I guess you could still sign up in say Jan, and have the surgery done, asap then quit paying the monthly.. haha If you aint got money you aint got money....

Now, the part of this I do not understand, or didn't till a little bit ago was this.

My friend who works the system on everything she does, couldn't get past this one.

She says she needs shoulder surgery. She has Zero income, but says she doesn't qualify for a medical card, only Pregnant females do in my state. I have No idea to the truth to this.

But I am wondering if true, this Obama care only helps already paying people with private insurance get better rates from what I have seen. She could be 100% wrong, but said our state opted out of the expanded medicare / medicaid or something...

She says she has to move to another state to get the Free Stuff. I was like just pay the small amount monthly, and the 10% of the bill, if the surgery is really needed... She says she can't work till she gets it done.. hummm..

I also guess the amount per month and the 10% could still be thousands....

I guess that also brings Up, if they want Household Income or just hers in any state.

Anyway I think she tries to hard to get stuff for free....

This one is easier

Obamacare is triggered by the medicaid levels in your state...it ONLY kicks in if you do NOT qualify for Medicaid

for example in GA if you make 10K per year you get no subsidy for your insyurance because you qualify for medicare

If you make 12k Per year (too much for medicare) you get your insurance about 90% subsidized.

Income is really dependant on how you file your taxes if you file single then only your income counts if you file married then its your and your spouses income, it also is determined by your number of dependents and the federal poverty level you can make 4x the federal poverty level and still get a break on your insurance with Obamacare but I think thats where it cuts off
