Interesting... I am considering doing the same thing. (I also bought Tron: Legacy and Inception).

Another good movie I watched twice in a row was "The Prestige" (Chris Nolan Movie) but only because when I went to bad after watching it, I couldn't sleep because the movie stuck in my head and I felt like I had missed a huge reveal at the end, which I did.

It makes sense to me. These were the only humans they had met and or swallowed up. They destroyed the moon and therefore most of the earth. There's no hint that they were ever on earth. They need the clones to fix the drones.

One possible hole in the movie was that according to the maps you see, there are many "radioactive" zones for Jack (or each "Jack") to avoid, suggesting that there are "Jacks" in each zone, fixing drones etc. It's established that Jack remembers his wife via dreams, and its established that clone Jack has the same dreams. We can therefore assume that all jacks have the same dream, and that probably sooner or later more Jacks will find the one surviving wife. Oblivion Gang bang.

Of course what Bronco67 said makes sense. As for your argument, don't forget that you never see the actual aliens. They may not be physical at all, or, they may not be able to survive on earth for whatever reason.

All you see are the machines that convert water into energy. Jack is told that its for the colony on Jupiters Moon but of course its for the Tet and the Aliens that run it.

Jack recites stanza XXVII of "Horatius" from the "Lays of Ancient Rome" before triggering the nuclear device and destroying the Tet. Earlier in the movie he sais "Everybody dies. The thing is, to die well". He is giving Moran's character an amazing death.

Ok but most other actors don't die in their movies either. Did you see the last Star Trek? Kirk "Died", but didn't... grrr...

This movie sucks so much. Mediocre, Boring as fuck, truly previsible, etc...

Anyone who liked it, probably doesn't understand too much about good cinema or is easily entertained with mediocre stuff. Nothing personal to anyone, tho... But it's the truth.

I watched Oblivion in Cinema and was truly disappointed, it's way over rated. There are a lot of better movies than this in the same topic, and rating it with 6 points in IMDB would be too generous already. It has 7 points, like many other over-rated movies.

I really liked TRON from the same Director, tho. That was a good one.

I liked Tron: Legacy too. Loved it actually. Saw it twice in IMAX and a few times on blu ray. Music was awesome too.

I found myself reminded of Tron while watching Obivion. The color of the drone's scanners, the swimming pool, etc... Tron-ish.

It's the best sci-fi since the matrix. The crazy thing that most people don't know is that it parallels reality and the military. The Tet represents the illuminati and the all seeing eye, and like Jack and Victoria we are duped into killing our fellow human beings through false motives only for the benefit of an elite evil entity trying to control every aspect of our lives for their own gain.

but we do see an alien, the one cruise bullshits to get access in the mothership. which simply doesn't jibe with the entire *reason* to clone.

well, you know, that's pretty much right. we all know going into a cruise movie he ain't dying and the way these big budget movies have to be scripted to appeal to mass audiences, well.

nevertheless, i like cruise movies and was entertained but yeah, with a different actor they could have made a dang good sci-fi because the story really had potential.

Smart movie - I was becoming a hater of Cruise until I saw this. A+

Ok, I agree the movie had a ton of plot holes... but... the enemy cloning its enemy is not such a far fetched idea at all, especially if you cast in light of what may or may not be happening in Syria, and what has definitely been proven to be an intrinsic part of how things were done in the past with "secret wars" waged by the CIA, KGB, etc. :2 cents:

I just watched it again last night on Blu Ray. Beautiful looking movie...and the plot holds together for me minus Dyna Mo's point about gaining access to the Tet. I also thought the women's roles should have been reversed. Kurylenko would have been better as the dutiful, neatly dressed clone -- and Riseborough(the stronger actress) as the wife.

Speaking of the women, which one would you hit first? I know Olga Kurylenko is conventionally more beautiful, but something about Irish redheads turn me on.

i love sci fi i read at least one short story per day before i go to sleep.
This was a good movie, a little easy to see what was coming, but still good.

Plot holes? I doubt they would have fooled them with the body switch.
However you never know, they werent able to track their own flying machine when it went off course.

i see the comparison, perhaps i was looking at the cloning more at face value rather than a metaphor for social issues, which is a big part of sci-fi for me that i like a lot, one of the the things that makes district 9 such a compelling sci-fi and star trek certainly.

that said, i hope that aliens that are advanced enough to figure out how to travel the universe would not have a usa foreign policy strategy! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

i'm going to watch it again, maybe not the ending though ;-) . it's certainly a good looking movie, perhaps i went into it with a pre-concieved idea that tom cruise makes it more entertainment and less cerebral. but there's vanilla sky- very cerebral and an xcllnt cruise movie.
