Currently the full-time minimum wage for Adults in Australia is $16.37 per hour.
For the teens working in mcd it is less but any adult working there must be paid at least this.

Amazingly this min wage hasn't resulted in the collapse of the economy or society and somehow they even manage to afford to put a mcdonalds on every corner.

The minimum wage in the US for adults is a disgrace

The greatest weakness of capitalism and free market economics is that both assume the best in the individual will shine through. That each person wants more. That each person can achieve more. That each person is going to wake up each day and strive for more. That each person is never going to stop trying to better themselves, never stop improving their skills, never stop increasing their value in the workplace and never stop moving up the ladder of prosperity.

The problem is that idea of opportunity and prosperity and the fair and level playing field that allows each person to reach their potential,... doesn't sell as well as "hey man, nothing is your fault, do nothing to strive for more just flip burgers and just demand more because you're entitled".

Of course, because post world war/post depression in an industrial/agricultural economy in a nation with 1/4th of the current population and ZERO fast food franchises and similar jobs to speak of is perfectly analogous....

Not for in & out, the amount of people that cycle through that place is crazy. Every one I have been in, was non stop Flow of people.. For people that have never been, it isn't like Mcdonalds, where you stand in line forever, wait for food forever, then sit down to a fast food meal like it was family dinner chat.. Oh wait.. ok

Lines move fast, food comes out fast for amount of people being served, people seem to clear tables fast since people are standing and eating waiting on a table...

I am sure it might not always be like this, as I do not have one local to me...

Whats all this bitching? It's a private company. They can pay whatever rate they want to as long as it's not below minimum wage. There is no entitlements, no age issues, no collapsing of societies, no nothing. They can ask for more money or better quality paper hats until the cows come home without it becoming class warfare. or can they?

Well, unless things have changed, restaurants do not have to pay minimum wage as they give food in lieu of wages. But it has been a very long time since I worked there.

it is more expensive than what you pay in the US

not sure on gas, never use it. petrol is about 1.50 a litre tho
average house price in melbourne is about 450k sydney about 550k

mcdonalds does cut costs by hiring teenagers however, a 16 year old minimum wage is aroung 8 an hour which increases till 20 years old where the standard adult rate of 16$ applies

They do food prep in house and other cost saving measures...and the 3 near me always seem to be busy to out of control busy. Always. Not like McDs at all.
