On February 4th, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

"In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law. Russia does not need minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell 'discrimination'. We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation. The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of most minorities. When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the national interest first, observing that the minorities are not Russians."

The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a five minute standing ovation.

This is exactly why I think Russia passed the anti-gay law.

They know that any form of "minority rule" could de-stabilize the regions, and thus the nation.

It doesn't need to be worded that way bust most 1st world countries do not let in foreigners unless they are well educated or have a skill that is needed. This is why America is so fucked right now.

There was a time when we needed foreigners to build this country but now we have plenty. Closing the doors it seems would be like hacking off one of our limbs though, so I don't see anything changing anytime soon.

Why do English speakers think it's "anti-gay" law? It's "anti gay propaganda for children" law. If anyone suggests to a child that he or she should be gay when they grow up, they get fined. That's it. It's not like you are getting shot on site if you tell anyone that you are gay.

I agree with your take on Putin.

Protect children? Not all gays are pedophiles just like not all heteros are. Exposure to the gay lifestyle is unlikely to make you want to partake. So the law is a more then a bit pointless except that it is used for bashing gays. You would think that a bord full of people who make money off of asexual behavior that we would be a bit more open to other choices.

I've watched my glorious country turn from humble, down-to-earth and respectable to being pussies that bend to every group that whines loud enough. We lost Christmas, we lost headdress rules, we lost ability to have a male prom king and female prom queen, we've also lost ability to speak our native language in places of business and the ability to raise our children in an environment that's psychologically healthy for them because of minorities having full-reign on our way of life to change it how they see fit and even get paid to do it upon landing.

If you're white, god-fearing and English, you're a majority but treated as a minority now.
