What's the point of running several websites that do the same thing?

So i'm looking at this from a webmasters point of view.

Manwin owns YouPorn, Pornhub, Tube8, XTube, ExtremeTube, JuicyBoys, Webcams, Mydirtyhobby, KeezMovies, Tranny Surprise, and SpankWire.

What is the point of running several websites that do the exact same thing? Is it not a conflict of interest?

If I was to create several tube websites, won't I neglect one over the other? Is this really a wise strategy?

I have several webcam sites.
Each one has it's own traffic because I don't do jack shit to push them, and the more I add the more I make.
Pretty fucking simple.

This thread has been forwarded to Manwin. Expect a phone call from Nathan in the morning and please be prepared to tell them everything they are doing wrong.

Good catch by the way!

I have 32 similar sites. I go "Niche" though as then your traffic is different and more targeted.

I have some I advertise and others I don't for comparison purposes to compare advertised sites versus slow natural build.

I had no idea that was the case. I guess to compete with each other? Not really sure.
But I think I got my answer.

I've just been struggling with this for a while. I have 2 pinterest porn websites and it's a mind boggle. I can't figure out which one I want to promote. And i feel like if I worked on 1 i'd have a lot more traffic.

No 1 site is going to make you rich. Diversify.

Would you rather have one 5k per month site or five-hundred $30 per month sites?

Simple, small, to the point and put links on anything interesting and build another.

Repeat.

Repeat again

Repeat 500 times. Link up, trade links, get backlinks from profiles, free site accounts, etc. Repeat over and over...

Manwin just plays a bigger game and has bigger money to buy properties instead of developing and waiting for them to become profitable.

you're looking at the picture all wrong...they are not "competing" with each other...they are cornering the market. everyone knows the big tubes have most of the traffic now, so if you own the tubes, you win. financially speaking of course.

To grab as much of the Internet as you can. If one site doesn't show up for what you searched for, another will

Few webmasters are interested in creating a diverse portfolio because they are more fixated on traffic volume.

Sometimes for whatever reason a subtle difference on one site -- even the name -- will make it thrive whereas another site falters. Plus those sites you mention do things each subtly different and some cater to different markets. E.g. ExtremeTube is very different than Pornhub. It has more BDSM and that type of content where PH is more vanilla.

Love or hate Manwin you have to give them the fact that they have done well in grabbing traffic.

It's called competing with yourself if you are selling a product.

How well does it work? Ask General Motors ...

Oldsmobile -- dead
Pontiac -- dead

It's a 1950's marketing technique that died in 1990 -- a dinosaur.

On the web its called spam -- ask Matt Cutts. It's like a cow pie throwing contest -- who can make the most cow shit stick to the barn wall?

Pretty much.

I have a hundred blogs that all have the same kind of content. If I had only one I would make "$X". If I have 100 I make $X times 100.

It's called basic math.

Well if we're doing math here you can add up how much each domain is worth+ the hosting expense for each website.

What's cheaper, payin for 100 domains or 1?

And you won't necessarily get more money with multiple websites.

For example manwin has pornhub and extreme tube which is for bondage, etc.

Why not just create a category on pornhub called bondage/bdsm rather then creating a whole new website for that niche?

It doesn't make sense to me.

Instead of creating 50 tiny websites why not put all your time into 1 and create a 1 giant website. The bigger the website gets the faster it'll grow and expand with people embedding your content, etc.

I can put this into tumblr terms. Instead of creating 50 tumblr blogs with 10-30 messily followers I can create 1 blog with 5,000 followers. And the 1 blog will probably make more money because with 5,000 followers reblogging and liking my posts it's grow really fast.

I remember my tumblr blog was getting over 300 followers a day. A brand new blog will never achieve that.

Is this a trolling thread? If, or rather when Google rolls out yet another pathetic update and 2 000 000 random sites lose their ranks, having 10 sites gives you much better chance of survival, no?

Why would you assume this is a trolling thread. We're having a debate/discussion here. Is that not what forums are intended for?

I'm wondering weather it benefits having 1 website you concentrate on or multiple.

And that does help. If Google
Has an update having 1 website with high pr and rank would help much more than having 50 small sites with no pr or Alexa rank.

Yes, if those 10 sites do not share the same elements as those 2 000 000 random sites that lost their ranks because of having said elements.

Its really just because one site will not work for everyone when it comes to content.

the more properties you have, the more exposure. someone may get tired of viewing videos on one site and hop over to the next. its a pretty common and productive strategy for content marketing.

when a user goes to a new site, it increases the chance of them "converting" either into an event, sale or just a returning wanker

That's true. This would explain why there's always several of the same kind of websites

There's like 10+ url shorteners.(goo.gl, bit.ly, tinyurl, etc)

And there's several image hosts. (Imgur, minus, ingboo, photobucket, etc)

And this works for everything.
