Why Do Sponsors Not Understand How Important It Is Not To Change Link Codes

I'm getting so fucking tired of this, you can't tell me not possible to keep the same link codes for your galleries when you update your stats package.

I mean does it not dawn on you that when webmasters try to update a blog with new galleries they might need to see the link name to know they are using galleries they have not used before? Do you expect to go through ever blog page and look? That takes a lot of time and is not full proof.

What really pisses me off is when they change link codes that use to contain the models name and the new ones don't. There has to be smarter people running these companies, unless they are trying to steal sales from old codes.

That doesn't solve the problem of the new and old codes. This is an gallery sorting issue for the webmaster.

What's worse is when sponsors "update" their paysite linking codes and the old ones no longer give you credit. Instead, all the old links redirect to the sponsor's house account. It's a fucking disgrace how many sponsors do this. When I discover this, I pull the sponsor and replace them with a new one.

They realize the importance of maintaining linking codes and its easy to carry old codes over, good sponsors forward them so you get credit, sleazy sponsors don't, its that simple

You don't understand what I'm saying. I think this is the problem. Maybe the problem is that many sponsors have never run an affiliate network of blogs/sites.

they don't care since things like that make them more money (since they don't have to split the rev. with affiliates who do not change links)

Sometimes it's an honest mistake as well.

contact the program and see if they can fix.

we had issues like that years ago when our programmers didn't realize the old links were still in use. They don't think like webmasters, they think like programmers.

It's a calculated maneuver. If you catch it, they will say they are sorry, but the are only sorry they could no cheat you out of money.

Nobody running a affiliate network do NOT know what the result is of changing the link structure.

Who says that they don't know exactly what they're doing when they do it?

As pointed out right above me, this is planned out. Affiliate programs don't just do this shit to do it. They do it to snag a few extra bucks in the process.

                          Spend you some brain.

A good thing to do is link back to your own site like this: www.mysite.com/sponsor/sitelink.php

Then when a sponsor changes link codes, you just need to change the link in one place instead of a ton. Just put a redirect inside sitelink.php

And yes, it's a shady move to steal sales most likely...

You could also take it a step further and do something like

                              https://www.mysite.com/sponsor/sitel...ons=noconsoles

Then if the sponsor changes the site structure you can make some changes to the jump script on your end (presuming there is some sort of usable pattern) to handle it without having to rewrite all those links. Worst case scenario you can it to forward to the main page with your code. If you linked directly to the sponsor you would have to manually change every single link.

You don't like my posts? Put me on ignore or fuck right off. I'll say what I want.

He is not talking about sponsors who do not properly redirect links for affiliate credit.

He is talking about sponsors who make new galleries with totally DIFFERENT URLs and descriptives but the SAME content. This makes it really hard to know whether or not you are doubling galleries up in blogs, TGPs, etc.
