Popunders can be effective too but I think what hurts the most these days are all the popunder blockers which often get installed by default. It's a big difference a 90% success versus 30% success rate.

Exactly. Its the popup blockers that are killing sales and value of popunders. For free sites, this is advertising income that they rely on. How other companies are allowed to make blockers and block my traffic which is MINE, should be illegal. They are robbing money from site owners.

anyone who has decent traffic and either doesn't utilise popunders, or sells them, is leaving money on the table.

popunders work, and surfers *will* buy paysites/cams from them.

Amen my friend. Nailed it. It seems people just have this assumption that all traffic these days is shit. Makes sense since allt he traffic that is being whored around places to buy traffic is feeder.

I have developed automated sites just for adding popups too and they make easy money simply from the popups. The usual banner ads make jack shit, it is the pops that make the money!

This is a terribly general statement. It's kinda like saying "land should be $20k per acre" without taking into consideration the location.

The value of popunder traffic is related to the source as well as the buyer. I have pops that value out everywhere between $0.10/k to $50/k. And I have affiliates that can make money on buying traffic and those that can't... promoting the same sites.

It's just not easy anymore like it was 10 years ago.

yes, they are. And 'fill with popunders'? :1orglaugh

Please don't tell me you think surfers don't return to a site because they get a popunder once every 24 hours...

Hey Jel, it was just a joke :) . Regarding pop-unders, it's my own personal opinion. I think that surfers are annoyed by them (otherwise there wouldn't be such a high demand for popunders block addons) and also I don't see how someone could buy something from a page that pop-ups unwanted when you try to click on something.

Personally I prefer more the side floating ads... I think they are less annoying.

BUT I'm not saying that popunders don't bring sales, I only think that it's takes a lot of clicks to make a sale...

It's cool :pimp

I hear ya on the personal opinion, and they are annoying, but not as annoying as you might think - it certainly doesn't stop tens of millions of surfers per day visiting the tubes, piratebay, and yeah it isn't targeted, but 1:4 - 6k is what I was getting when I had traffic - you'd be surprised, as would almost everyone who doesn't use them for either fear of 'upsetting' a surfer, or that they are useless.

When I started using them it made zero difference to my usual sales, and obviously brought in more money - I've yet to hear of someone introducing them, then deciding to remove them due to any detrimental effect.

Regarding the blockers - same thing with ad blockers, but nobody would remove ads in case the surfer found them 'annoying' :)

Funny enough, those floating ads I find annoying as hell lol, but I bet you wouldn't remove them because many surfers also do, and use ad blockers :)

consoles = extra revenue, and that's the bottom line :2 cents: If I piss off some guy because he has to take less than 2 seconds to close a popunder, and is irritated for 2 seconds (and maybe 0.000000001% of porn-seeking surfers who are now on your page looking at porn, and wanting to see more otherwise he wouldn't have clicked in the first place would actually close a site that popped 1 console), I'll still sleep pretty easy :thumbsup

When I used pop-unders I saw an increase in bounce rate. i've used them for about a month then dropped them. It was something like 1:10k with a cam site. With floating ad it' s more like 1:2-3k ... Of course I don't do the floating ad as big as the screen like some wm's do :)) . It's around 468x60 banner, I've seen that it works best for me. I guess it all depends on the traffic.
If I think about it, most big tubes have pop-unders and do pretty well with google, returning visits and so on...

Exactly. While clicked banners may be 1:20 or 1:50 at worst. This should explain the popunders cheap pricing. And why the sites try to sell that.

tigermtb 08-06-2013 08:20 AM

Our stance against Malware has forced malicious buyers out. This dramatically affects prices and other providers have done similar.

As a personal aside, I have always hated pops. We didn't offer them for a very very long time because I simply hate them and find them annoying. However, since then I believe that our Publishers have a choice.

You may earn more elsewhere, but we have one of the most strict anti-malware polices and procedures. We believe clean advertisers are more important than higher earnings.
:2 cents:

So the OP should find a malware-friendly ad network :)

Makes sense and that was one of the things I listed in my first reply that I thought malware used to push up the rates. But is there any way to verify this -- that you have indeed reduced prices to buyers? For example plugrush has this page published which shows the general rates:

https://www.plugrush.com/advertisers/prices

Maybe they just haven't updated it but they still show they are selling US pops for $2.25/k.

I can confirm that malicious buyers indeed jack up rates on ad networks.

DavieVegas 08-08-2013 12:49 PM

It cant be just malicious ad buyers that is causing this.

We contact with our team daily a huge amount of websites to get the traffic, we offer, CPA, Revshare, CPM, CPC and even upfront deals but only 10% of the people reply to us. Seems that most of the webmasters are happy selling it to the networks...
Also the amount of siteowners that send the traffic directly to the program has dropped a lot. Most comes now from Mediabuyers and performance networks.
