    [PSA] Backup Your Shit!

Just a reminder to backup your shit.

Make sure to backup your user folders including the All Users folder.

If you use QuickBooks the company file is most likely in the program files(x86)/Intuit/QuickBooks directory.

Send yourself important things through your Gmail account. DO NOT SEND yourself very important shit where somebody could take over your bank accounts, brokerage accounts, etc just by taking over your Gmail account. I am talking about file backups like your settings to a program you favor and change often (more often then your backup schedule), etc...

    * Yes... I just had to perform a restoration of all of my shit. Though I went with a fresh install of Windows 7.

I wish there was an easy way to backup gazillions of files across multiple devices automatically. Perhaps every day or something.

There probably is but I don't use it. In fact I only backup my personal stuff every 3-6 months.
Business things about once a week. I know I should backup daily but I usually think about it after I shut the PC down.

So yeah, auto backup solution required.

I'm very paranoid about data loss. A typical file on my workstation will eventually (once all offsite backups are rotated in) end up on 5 different disk arrays. Sounds a bit excessive, but the cost of the extra drives pales into insignificance compared to the value of the data. One time when I was upgrading my NAS there was a series of failures and bugs that wiped out all but one of the backups... so at that point I was very glad I'd overengineered my backup solution.
