I commented in the other thread, but I also have problems with a long term life change with the atkins diet. I don't think the research is there long term, and I haven't encountered any doctors recommending it long term.
Also you have to think about lifestyle. If you are the type of person that isn't going to exercise and work there butt off, you are in a different situation.
If you do the atkins stuff long term and want to bulk up muscle wise and/or perform physically at a high level, you are gonna conk out, there is no way around it. You will need carbs beyond atkins maintenence. Thats why in a perfect world I would stay away long term, because exercise, both weights and cardio do so much for your body then burn off calories. It can improve function of evertyhing, relieve stress, raise metabolism, and the list goes on.
And again labeling carbs as the enemy is bad news. It isn't as simple as trying to get through a day with eating as few carbs as possible. Nothing wrong with potatoes, veggies, fruit, whole grains, pasta and other pure carbs. Its the junk foods and gunk we put on top of that stuff.
And you don't have to starve on a diet, veggies are something you can add that have bulk and don't have many calories.
