Why is ICQ mandatory lately ?

Everyone used to use ICQ. Now no one does.

I use Skype daily these days, but I noticed that skype put up an ad while I was on a call with someone.

As for skype, I have maybe 10 contacts, and don't use it often. Skype sucks as IM.

As much as I like you I tend to disagree Many peeps are still using icq. Well in my list. I also find it usefull to see it on biz cards. Sometimes it tells you kinda how long this person is in the biz.

Same here,using skype only if there is no other way to contact.

Yeah I was very surprised upon entering this biz that main contact happens on ICQ! I hadn't even heard that word mentioned for a long time! I use a combo of ICQ and skype IM to talk to most of our affiliates/partners.

I do not remember many (any) programs that mandatory requested me to enter ICQ. Maybe 1 out of 50?

that was office comedy for years.. hehe

It's just another way to get a hold of people really. Some issues are easier to explain in email format, others like short quick questions can save you a lot of time by contacting a rep directly. We do get a lot of emails in a day and I check it pretty often, but I'm on icq all day. Oh and it's not mandatory for us obviously, I can't see anyone doing that these days either.

i never understood why people even use icq - is it because it is more anonymous since icq is usually number? It seems like only people in adult biz use it mostly..

It's because back in the money making days of porn - circa say 96-98 - ICQ was pretty much awesome and the standard. Then along came other options like Yahoo Messenger, MSN, etc... but people had already built an online presence within the community and they stuck with it.

It just goes to show you how willing people are in this business to adapt.

That's not true at all.

I use ICQ/AIM and Skype. Skype is mostly for my customers and clients, while AIM/ICQ is meant for biz friends and sponsors. I use Adium to control AIM/ICQ.

I dont understand why all the hate behind icq, it's just an IM program, it does what it's meant to do. Skype is meant for videoconferencing and I don't need that in this biz. Stop whining and just fuckin' use it.

the problem is that you have to run multiple chat programs which sucks,I dont like to have several chat programs installed ..everyone has skype..I have never ever saw anyone using icq outside porn biz..like someone above said: it seems that people are unwilling to modernize..
