    Good morning, Tumblr

    What the living ARRRGGGG

    http://www.zdnet.com/adult-tumblr-bl...le-7000018295/

"When Yahoo bought Tumblr, it suggested that its adult and porn blogs would be left alone.

Users found out this wasn't true when a new adult blog search policy went public on Thursday, capping Tumblr's quarantine on adult content, which now also includes excluding adult blogs from Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other search engines.

The changes render an estimated 10% of Tumblr's userbase invisible and unfindable.

Now, around 12 million Tumblr blogs marked "adult" have been removed from Tumblr's internal search; this follows the revelation two months ago that adult blogs were no longer indexed by Google, and the pre-sale removal of Tumblr's "Erotica" category from its category index.

Tumblr's "Erotica" category had been launched in January 2010 with much sex-positive fanfare - it would appear that the days of Tumblr's tolerance are long gone."

just read this a few minutes ago, and: that's an awful opinion piece.

    "Topic: Censorship" lol, righto.

Sucks for affs monetizing tumblr, and I feel sorry for anyone losing $ over it, but to talk solely about the piece, it is a piece alright, a piece of irrational shit.

I can't use your free service to put all my porn on! Censorship! etc

It's tougher to network when the blog is not searchable by anyone who isn't already a follower of the blog.

Why the fuck do people keep using free services and then whining when shit doesn't turn out well? Use your own hosting and your own domains and then you're in control.

It's not entirely free. Plus, I don't think I need to explain the benefits of a heavily populated social networking site vs. a stand alone, hosted blog. Or do I....?

Not everyone hit by it is selling porn. In fact with the other policy changes including banning almost every blog with ads there isn't a traditional direct (or non blackhat) way to sell porn on Tumblr. You can't regularly put up affiliate links or you'll get banned soon. Even if you are promoting your own paysite you are at risk of getting banned if you link to your site all the time. You can only be subtle and market indirectly if you expect to stay around for more than a month or two.

I have a few Tumblr blogs that while they have a link or two to some of my adult sites as the legitimate source of the content and for more information aren't so much about milking profit from it as much as they are about an interest. Not everyone affected are blackhats putting out 500 new tumblr splogs a day using 100 rotated proxies so they can sell dating and cams. Not all of us are spammers.

It's their right to do it but it really is censorship in that it prevents the content from being seen by anyone who is not logged in to a tumblr account with safe mode disabled as explained here http://www.ghacks.net/2013/07/19/how...nts-on-tumblr/ Yahoo did the same thing with Adult Yahoo Groups many years ago. That decision probably cost me $500,000+.

These sites are just in it for the free content you provide them. They'll monetize it later if they're not already, plus use / sell personal, browsing and tracking information if they're not already. I'm not alleging anything, I'm just saying what seems to be obvious so.. let time tell.

They aren't necessarily good. It's just that they are older and were able to gather up followers before the policy change. I think many of the older blogs are still in the Google too but the spider isn't able to access them due to robots.txt so I would think eventually those rankings will be gone soon.

But then you won't get the amazing tumblr traffic. The reason why people use tumblr is for the traffic.

If anything people can use blogger.com or pornblogspace.com however they don't because those websites are shit.

Tumblr on the other hand is a traffic machine.

As reported in Wired, Internet service providers (ISPs) in the country will “make filtering a standard option across industry.” If you don’t act, parental filters will come “pre-ticked.”

Therefore, if you don’t want your Internet connection to be quite so vanilla, you’ll need to opt-out. ISPs are implementing the filtering system without a legal requirement, so we will not see a law enforcing the new policy.

This is pervasive. Claire Perry, a Member of Parliament, described how one might opt-out of the system: “We will have automatic put on, so if you turn the filter off at 9pm, it turns on again at 7am.”

I am working to change the scan times and add the ability to scan them manually individually and in bulk.
Alright, you can now scan all sites individually, retrieve the meta tag again if you need it, and also scan all sites, on top of the system scanning it daily.

This is pervasive. Claire Perry, a Member of Parliament, described how one might opt-out of the system: ?We will have automatic put on, so if you turn the filter off at 9pm, it turns on again at 7am.?

Thus, even if you turn the damn thing off, it will come back on before your first cuppa.

                                                                                http://thenextweb.com/insider/2013/0...e-end-of-2013/
If this ever happened in America the scumbag ISPs would be charging a $30-$50 a month "adult content fee" in order to opt out.

It's total bullshit of course. It should be OPT IN.

If you knew the tricks it was a gold mine. Like for instance how putting spaces or some funny ASCII character before your site title in the links would put you at the top of the links list or how the calendar feature could be used to automatically post a message once every couple days automatically (forever!) after setting it up. I must have been personally responsible for over 1,000,000 links and messages there. But don't judge me too harshly I kept it in the adult groups and tried to stay relevant to the group.

Yahoo really fucked that up and they clearly don't know what they are doing. It's a shame. To this day it's a sitting duck for spam. It still could be useful for people if they got the spam under control but they either don't have a clue or they don't know how to do it so everyone left.
