My sister called me from England yesterday and mentioned they were having a heatwave... I laughed when she said it could get to 29C--that's about 90F--which is not a particularly hot day in the San Pornando Valley.

Depends on what you are used to. It hit 112 here a while back and it was horrible, but that was common in Phoenix.

The global earthquake death toll for 2012 is 768, and we're supposed to believe that 760 people died in one day because it was unseasonably hot?

                  That article is hilarious.

I tell you what, we are having one of the hottest winters I can ever remember.

Fire place has been sitting dormant most of winter for the first time in years.

It happens - I am just waiting for the phone call saying I have to go to Southend because my uncle is in hospital again.....

The supermarkets will be full of people with breathing difficulties pretending to buy a pint of milk - They are the only places that are cool...

I would take 40 in Spain over 30 in London any time.....

There's no AC anywhere. It's pretty brutal

They rolled out a whole bunch of new buses recently with windows that didn't open, and the AC units failed instantly, so they had to recall them

You get that pretty much every year though - The last time we had a 'heatwave' was 2006 - In fact the last time we had 'heat' was 2006!..

I am afraid it tends to kill off the 'weak' here when it happens.....

Exactly, I just came back from Malta and it was around 35 to 40 every day and thats ok for Malta around this time of the year. London however is not used to temperatures over 27, so we are all just really really hot and wishing for the rain to come back

Actually you are not taking in consideration the humidity factor, this morning in Montreal it is 26C but with humidity feels like 36C - Max for today they predict : 33C but it will feel like 45C

When I was in Thailand this March, it was 32-35C but the humidex made it 42C. With not even a gentle breeze to speak of, I felt like I was going to suffocate in some stores and restaurants. Heat like that would be unbearable in a place unprepared for it.

They rolled out a whole bunch of new buses recently with windows that didn't open, and the AC units failed instantly, so they had to recall them

All depends on humidity, It's been in the high 90's here all week, and while that's not bad, the humidity has been above 75% too... 112 in dry heat is tolerable, try 112 in 80% humidity.

I guess for an area that isn't use to it, 90 degree heat could be killer. You figure the buildings aren't made for it, and there's a lack of AC.

If it's hotter where you live, then good or bad for you I guess? But you should realize that the human body acclimatizes itself to the environment it exists in. That means it feels hotter when it doesn't usually get that hot. OK, pencils down.

I have some Brits who I subscribe to on Youtube and they are talking about needing to go for a drive just so they can blast the air conditioner and cool off. Even here in upstate NY this is the 6th day of +90 degrees and for this area, 3 days of 90+ is an official "heatwave". Relief is due tomorrow night which will be nice. It's hard to sleep when it's like 85 degrees in your house. Remember to chug water as you sweat! The older you are the more you don't realize you need more water, this causes deaths.. drink up, wankers
