When i was about 5-6 I remember looking at the Matchbox car village and drooling over it. Wanted to play trucks bad each time the show was over.

Our Icons are dropping like flies. :(

demented 02-27-2003 05:01 PM

Smack! You're from Pittsburgh??? No way! I'm from Pittsburgh too. I live in LA now, but I'll tell ya, if you lived in the Burgh anytime during the 90's then we either know each other, or know someone who knows someone who knows both of us. For those of you not familliar with Pittsburgh, it's not 6 degrees of separation, it's 2. And it's only 1 if you're gay.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Rodgers. I woke up in the middle of the night with a bad sinus attack and heard the news just as it broke. My boss thinks it's some wierd connection. (cue Twilight Zone theme)

KrazieSweets 02-27-2003 05:34 PM

my thoughts and prayers are with his family..and the children that loved his show..RIP

RIP Mr. R, I will miss you!:(

Cheshire 02-27-2003 06:16 PM

Breaking News!

King Friday has been apprehended with large quantities of cash, crack cocaine, and a vial containing trace amounts of arsenic. The coroner's office is scheduling a full autopsy on the stomach contents of Mr. Rogers, but at present will not give comment to the media.

This comes as no surprise to X the Owl as he has stated to CheshireKat Post reporter that jealousy had always surrounded the Neighborhood of Make Believe, and that it was directly following Mr. Rogers' moved uptown late in 2002 that King Friday began to exibit erratic behaviors. After the Trolly was reposesed by the bank, it prompted the opening of Henrietta the Pussycat's 'PussyCat PussyLounge' assisted by the now openly gay Prince Tuesday as an attempt to increase revenue through tourism. Resulting from King Friday's third drug offense Queen Sara filed for divorce, and Probation officer McFeely states it marked the King's final decent into maddness.

This is an unfortunate developement, and will be followed closely.

I use to watch him as a kid it sucks that he is gone. r.i.p Mr. Fred Rogers

G Sharp 02-27-2003 06:35 PM

R.I.P.

Mr. Rogers showed that the real definition of a good father, husband, friend, and, essentially, the definition of a "man" is self-discipline, kindness, and compassion. Most general definitions of manliness is of egotism, judgmentalism, and "being tough"--or other variations of the act of imposing one's will on another--in essence, of selfishness. He showed that confidence can come from gentleness. He showed a model of strength from soothing and clear communication. He was an embodiment of an alternative path. He was a gentle, caring soul that brought a little bit of serenity and non-judgmentalism to this world.

RIP, Mr. Rogers, you're in a better, kinder, neighborhood now.

He had a whistle, I think.

Cheshire 02-27-2003 06:39 PM

It was a recorder ~ That's what prompted me to take after school lessons on how to play it.

Sarah_Jayne 02-27-2003 06:40 PM

This is an awesome article about Mr Rogers that appeared in Esquire a couple years ago in a special issue on Heroes.

http://esquire.com/features/articles...ershero_2.html

And after I read it, Mr Rogers transformed from a warm childhood memory, to an example of a life of love.

He inspired me.

If you have less time, this commencement speech he gave shows why is he was a great man:
