I think this case will redefine what self-defense means in this country. When people who watched this case are called to jury duty, this will be in the back of their minds.
Just think, you can now initiate a confrontation with someone who is unarmed and if you start to get the worst of it, you can just shoot them. There will be a lot more "self defense" going on.Comment

Self defense has always been that way. Following somebody isn't starting a "confrontation".
If someone jumps on a guy who has a gun...good chance they will get shot. That's always been the case. I thought anybody with half a brain and some survival instinct knows that.

Zimmerman didn't pull his gun on Martin. His jacket came open in the struggle, Martin saw the gun and went for it. Zimmerman had no choice.
The bottom line is that he did everything by the book. He did everything a gun owner was supposed to do. It was Martin who escalated the situation. All he had to do was stop and talk with the volunteer neighborhood watchman and he would have been on his way and still living.
Trayvon Martin = total fucking retard

this case is making me reflect. in the casey anthony case & this one, i was really hoping for justice. i made my personal decision about their guilt. but clearly juries are reaching verdicts based on the law. & it keeps leading me to feeling disappointed.
in the future i will try not to get as emotionally invested in these stories with uncertain facts & weak prosecutions. will also try better to parse my thoughts based on emotions vs facts.
im sure zimmerman regrets what he did given the way it changed his life forever.Comment

It's weird how Zimmerman was found not guilty in a town known for its racial problems, while over in Jacksonville, a black woman who fired warning shots at her husband wasn't standing her ground and got 20 years.
She had no prior record and had a protective order out against her husband. She claimed to have fired the warning shots to avoid a beating. Coincidentally, she also didn't have her bond revoked for lying to the court.
Amazing the difference a year makes.
