Hmmm Which TV To Buy?

I was out shopping with Makingcoin and Rip Rastor for TV's this week and I really liked these ones. Anyone have one of these already or can suggest something else I should check out?

Sony 51" Widescreen Projection TV

Toshiba 34" Digital TV

Thanks,
DH

P.S. Don't suggest a Plasma TV, I would love one but they are retardedly overpriced here in Canada.

Depends on the size of the room. The digital will have better definition, but in a larger room, I'd go for the size of the projection TV.

check out ubid.com the manufacturer sells on that site, and the prices are generally 20-30% less than what you would get in the store

I would love to buy one of these

40" FD Trinitron® WEGA? XBR® HDTV Ready TV

But for fucks sake it's $5500 CAD, I might as well spend an extra $1k and get a plasma tv.

I prefer to pay for things in cash

I figure once they are paid for I can relax, I don't like payments.

I have a Toshiba HD compatible Widescreen projection, and it rocks! Don't know how the Sony's are though. But I do recommend a Toshiba.

If you don't want to go with a plasma, check out Sony's 40" Vega flatscreen. By far the best tube tv available.

Thanks,

P.S. Don't suggest a Plasma TV, I would love one but they are retardedly overpriced here in Canada.

DK, this is my recommendation based on having sold televisions for a short period of time

plasma tv at the moment is overpriced and pretty shitty in my opinion - the warranty alone will set you back about 1200.00 for 4 or 5 years

if you can afford the KV-40XBR800 40" FD Trinitron® WEGA® XBR® Hi-Scan® TV, go for it, definately one of the best pictures and a good size TV

if you want to go larger in size, than you will find a better price with the rear projection TV's

the best quality projection TV is the Hitachi - 65% of the projection guns used in other brands are made by Hitachi and they keep the best ones for their own TV's

in fact, Hitachi got out of tube production to concentrate solely on the projection television

if you have a Visions store in your area, here's what i suggest (if you go to another electronics outlet the same applies):

tell them you want to buy the TV and pay for it in cash, taxes in on the total cost

make them go down on the price by at LEAST $500.00

get the extra warranty (4 years)

they'll try to make you buy the stand, make them throw it in for free

make them throw in the delivery for free

and if they have a deal set up with a satellite company, make them throw that in for free as well

one more thing...a lot of people are really digging the front projection TV's - you can adjust the size to anything you want and the quality of picture is fucking amazing, just be sure that if you do buy one, get a professional to set the convergence

good luck

If you really want a good TV, skip the mass consumer electronics store and look up a local high-end retailer. Pick up a DLP projection system or a rear projection by Runco or Loewe.

We just bought a 51 inch Hitachi widescreen HDTV monitor in December and it is awesome!! I believe it was like $2,200 or so. Honestly, I recommend ANY Hitachi, it's a great brand.

This set was given to me so I can't complain too much about the condition.

It's actually not all that bad, it's just very dirty and will need refinished.

The really nice looking Burled Walnut part at the top is actually a "Faux Finish" meaning it's painted on and not real veneer. This is impossible to fix and will have to be replaced with a piece of real veneer. Fortunantly it is a small section because Burled Walnut ain't cheap!

This set uses a DuMont Chassis and has a tuning eye and their famous continuous tuner, i.e. it doesn't click into place but instead tunes like a radio by spinning the big knob on the front, note the spinner handle on the knob so you can crank it quickly to the channel you want. It also has an FM Radio and a Phono input jack.

Go to a high end store for real, the sticker is probably only 10-15% higher than the local "discount" stores, but usually the folk more or less know their shit, and you can start to forge a customer relationship there with a sales guy.

They also have a LOT of leeway to give you deals. Essentially they can go down to cost + 10% (at least all the places I've seen), but then they get zero commission. They like to stick it to you as much as possible of course since their commission is higher.

I'm not saying fuck them. Buy you have wiggle room. IF you know exactly what you want, figure out the cheapest price online you can find, and add like 5-10% to it. You should be able to get it for around there if you walk in, grab a sales guy and tell him you want XYZ, for X price, and you don't want to waste his time. Might only be like $40 commission on a $5k sale, but for no work hell, who cares.

If you need help, just always figure ~10% off you can get without too much hassle at all, unless you're either taking up a shitton of the guys time, or are generally an asshole (or the sales guy sucks).

Ah, I miss the days of getting AV stuff for cost+10. Monster cables are marked up like 100% at least, it's crazy. Getting $110 cables for like $35+tax is pretty cool. Plus I got a whole home theatre setup (sony ES555 based) for about $900 when if I would have paid near-retail it would have been like $1400.

I'd hook you up if you were local to me.. Ah well.

I can't believe you guys have high end TV's but without the home theater equipment.

You guys should go with Sony WEGA XBR HDTV. I have been extremely satisfied.
