I've got the old style one and it's easily the best router I've used.

So apple has to have a special router too? Can non apple stuff use it? If not, it's useless.

I have the older version of this one. It's really fast and has worked perfectly for years.

No, any Apple product can use any router, and Apple routers will work with any other wifi product.

What is cool about the Apple routers is that they supported 802.11a/b/g/n before anyone else. The new router supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac for super-fast wireless and super long range.

Even better you can buy them with a built-in hard disk which is surprisingly useful. You can automatically, wirelessly, backup your data for example, or use it as a media station, regular hard disk, accessible by remote, etc.

Super best of all its very easy to configure. Apple makes amazing routers.

He's an idiot and will still spout off the same bullshit even after you've wasted your time explaining it to him.

It will work with any hard disk formatted in FAT16, FAT32, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled). If you buy a pre-formatted drive in another format such as NTFS you can do a quick-format in 2 minutes and its ready to go.
