I'm not watching it, but I read about it last night and apparently Zimmerman's attorney did not do a very good job with his opening statement. I read that he opened with a joke which bombed, but I wasn't sure if that was true or not.

He did. It was a knock knock joke. It wasn't even funny.
The prosecution's first words were "fucking punks", which was a term that it seems they believe Zimmerman used often.
Don't care, Zimmerman is guilty. No matter what he followed the kid, intimidated the kid, and the kid had done nothing wrong. Period. The kid wasn't even armed and wasn't committing any crime other than having a bag of skittles. Guilty as sin.

Yes, it was true. Opened nonchalantly with a joke. Plus they said he put on weight which isn't good for the trail, since it shows he is big enough to have defended himself without using a gun.

To me Zimmerman is at fault for what happened. I just wonder if they will be able to convict him of second degree murder. I wonder if the jury can find him guilty or a lesser charge or if it is second degree murder or nothing at all.

His joke wasn't meant to be 'funny' it was more a statement relating to how everyone and their dog has already one way or the other, made up their mind about Zimmermans innocence or guilt in this trial.
Part of being on Jury duty is the ability to have and open mind, relating to the facts of the case presented.
This case has already been tried in the court of public opinion making it a slam dunk if found guilty, he will be let off on appeal.

a knock knock joke. followed up with 'what's wrong with you people, im funny'
They need to be much more careful with her and it's also going to be VERY hard to think of her as anything other than an innocent kid who is not very bright.
The fact that they're trying to pin her on times and dates is a sign of desperation IMHO. She spoke to him until there was a scuffle. They don't really need to know much of anything else from her, yet he's asking her about if her involvement is because it was a racial thing and whatnot.
Personally, I feel that the longer she is on the stand, the worse it is for Zimmerman's side. They can't gain anything from her.

She can't follow a simple timeline, but she knows exactly when something happened. She's acting. When she slows down and utters each word slowly, that's the stuff they coached her on.
Can't follow a timeline? She spoke to him in the 7/11 and he got caught in the rain and then they "talked around" (bullshitted) and then he had made it to the mail place. What's hard about this timeline? Only a lawyer for the other side thinks there's trouble with this timeline, lol. Come on. This kid is dumb, but could win an oscar for acting? She's just a kid.
No conspiracies here folks, just a 19 year old who happened to talk to a kid who got killed.
Hell, they're taking some unknown amount of time (I'm busy working) but I guess a half hour now(?) on this conversation with a lawyer and the parents. What's the conspiracy with this? lol A three way phone call that somehow means Zimmerman didn't murder Martin? They're just trying to make her look guilty of something. She was on the phone with the kid right before he was murdered. Pretty simple.

Love ya but wrong... every bit of evidence points towards Zimmerman being in the clear. The prosecution is simply throwing guesses around and will overreach for murder2.
Even the local media here is tweeting out that the jury is obviously annoyed and bored with the prosecutions "star" witness.
Zimmerman will walk, this case is just a waste of time for public appearance.

Exactly. I don't know how anyone can claim self defense when they instigated the situation. Zimmerman was the one screaming help in the audio, because he's a little bitch who needed a gun to fight.
If he wasn't carrying a gun, he would have lost a fight to a 16 year old kid and that would be the end of it.
Doesnt matter, she is not the one on trial, she is a witness and the only thing the jury will take from her is Martin saying this guy is following me and the defense is attempting to dilute that and make her not credible. All the neighbors testified that they believe it was Zimmerman on top of Martin and Martin was screaming for help, very damaging to Zimmerman as they have no reason to lie.
And it came off as an insult to the jury. Horrible way to start your case.
That's it in a nutshell... the 911 tape where they tell him not to follow him is going to be a major obstacle in the defense's case.
For me the entire trial comes down to how the altercation between Martin and Zimmerman started. Zimmerman clearly followed Martin and at some point the two came together. How that happened and how the fight between them started is key.
If Zimmerman can convince the jury that Martin was the aggressor and he was just defending himself he will likely get off. If he can't do that he is in trouble.
The thing that could save him is that it is second degree murder they are trying to prove. My understanding is that they have to prove that Zimmerman intended to do harm to Martin even if he didn't mean to kill him. That might be hard to do.
The bottom line is that Zimmerman is responsible for Martin's death. Had he just gotten back in his car and went to meet the police like he said he was going to do this would have never happened. He chose to pursue Martin and that pursuit ended in death. I think, had he been charged with manslaughter, this case would be a slam dunk and Zimmerman might have even cut a deal, but because they went for second degree murder it leaves him a window.
I knew this thread was coming. I was watching the cross examination with my head in my hands, thinking, "GFY is going to have a field day, with Mongo on the stand."

If the deceased wasn't black this trial wouldn't be taking place.
Its unfortunate, she could be a REALLY good witness for both sides, if it wasn't for the fact she was educated in our school system and believes what she watches on television shows is real
So what do the resident GFY experts think she's lied about so far?
She said it sounded like Trayvon and that it could have been him and that he had that kind of voice. Thats a "lie" to a lawyer for Zimmerman, but to who else? lol
Yes obviously a terrible witness, almost as bad as Zimmermans Attorneys. I wouldnt want these guys representing me on a jaywalking ticket let alone a murder trial.

She referred to the TV show The First 48 which is a documentary show on A&E, not a drama. If that's what you meant anyway. She probably also could have said "Sir, when you're guilty of being black in America, you do NOT call the police."

That's the way I see it too.
It's all going to come down to who the jury thinks threw the first punch.
Everything else is peripheral.

A while back I saw a body language expert say that looking down or to the side while thinking is more indicative of someone trying to come up with a lie, while looking upwards is more indicative of someone actually trying to recall something.

furthermore, when you get into the science of 'body language / facial language' it becomes extremely individualistic
so, a person in florida compared to a person in vancouver, canada would not have the same 'characteristics of body language', as the locations/social developments would be disconnected.. same with two people from the same city.. depending on the individual, different things could mean different things
but, that really gets in the way of calling the fat black? chick a liar
