tried coffee aswell but that doesnt seems to work.. I´m not talking normal slugs, these are thr Spanish slug.. fuckers are massive. They are 5 inches long.

The other problem with the beer is I have to pick it up everyday, otherwise the chickens try to get the slugs out..

I live in a little village of 30 people, my nearest neighbour is a cow, there are chickens running all over the place. Down the road ther are 5 pigs, there´s around 30 sheep dotted about, a handful of goats, donkeys and horses. it was lovely to move from a city to up here.

Chickens are so easy to look after, just clean them out once a week and it´s all good.
make sure your coup is big enough to clean easily. I built mine but didnt make the cleaning panel at the back big enough, so it´s a bugger to clean, still only takes 15 minutes a week though.

Dont get a rooster unless you plan to breed them.

I´ve been thinking about getting some ducks, but they´re cute so killing them is harder than chickens, hehe.

I'm done with veggies in my little 4x5 meter "garden". So I have herbs, which usually do well (my koriander and dill have gone nuts) and then did living stone daisies through the rest along with violets.

i'm having troubles with my koriander (we call it cilantro in these parts) I think i need to take it out of the biodegradable pot it came in.. Love that herb, can use it for so many things.

The trade off is that they produce the best manure, to then put back on your garden. Plus you get eggs!

If they´ve got outside space, they dont really.
                        Depends how many you´ve got.

there are about 50, 20 ft from my front door.. never smell them, the cow sometimes wiffs on a hot day, but nothing real stinky.

The real "cost" of your supermarket produce is also in the machinery and manpower to seed, cultivate, harvest, pack and ship. Especially if it's out of season locally and your store imports from South America like mine does in winter. You "spent" way more on that one as a collective than you did on your tomato growing in a container at home. That low quality thing... being grown in and shipped from Brazil in the dead of winter.. costs more in the end. At home you get to fire everyone who is between you and the food. That's a big savings for a better quality food.

if you want better results. germinate them in a moist paper towel put that in a plastic bag sealed till you see they have sprouted. then transfer them to your container.

Here's some pics. I took them Monday and I swear both the koriander and catnip have grown a few more cm.

I've no idea why the koriander is doing well. It can't be the cold since I've never gotten it to take with the crazy dutch weather like I could in SE WA state. It could be because we mixed in a lot of compost this year into the garden.
