if you r are considering an s4, take a gander at the lg optimus g pro, it's a bit bigger 5.5" screen, isn't as marketed as the gs4 but is considered by many the top smartphone currently
and it has full hd 1920x1080p ips screen

Haha, I was thinking of going the opposite way. I've been using Android for years, and they just updated to the latest OS, which fucked up everything. I have contact information missing, the bluetooth works weird in my car now, the navigation has new quirks I hate.

There are probably widgets that will manage notifications for your apps. I have found it is much easier to get info at a glance on a well set up Android phone.
I moved to Android a couple of years ago as I just could not handle ITunes and I wanted to play FLAC music on my phone. And the IPhone screen is just too damn small.Comment

My iphone 5 is almost unusable by me. I pinch the phone between my head and shoulder so that my hands are free when I am on the phone. Apple has a microphone in the back of the iphone 5 that screens out background noise and totally screws up the call if it is covered. I now carry headphones everywhere so I can make a call and still type, drive or put away dishes. Total pain in the ass.Comment

yeah, apex launcher offers that, amongst others. There are probably widgets that will manage notifications for your apps. I have found it is much easier to get info at a glance on a well set up Android phone.

xcclnt launcher too, does away with the usually bloated up overlay the carriers insist on installing.Comment

This is an issue. The iPhone 5 may be pretty but as a phone it is shit compared to many alternatives. I'd take a "cheap plastic" (last I checked polycarbonate actually cost more than aluminum) phone over an iPhone.
I know a couple of people who need to have an extra phone simple because of the bad iPhone design. Else just try to Google 'iPhone 5 reception'.Comment

Some people have made some very good points about the iPhone.
Its easy.
It just works.
Great apps.
IMessage is very nice.
But I find it incredibly boring too.
I absolutely hate iTunes. I love how I can plug my Android into a PC and copy paste back and forth like a thumb drive.
My note2 has a huge screen I love it.
The browser options are way better for Android.
Hiding my porn favourites from kids/ relatives is so easy with the Frost browser. I would pay $30 just for that alone.
Watching porn is easier on Android.
You can install utorrent and download movies.
Gosmspro skins can make texts look just like the iPhone.
I don't really like games on a phone but there are plenty of apps and they are often free.
My wife is on Android and says she will probably switch back next time. It makes sense for her and her needs.
But me, no fucking way. This Android is a100 times better in terms of my needs.Comment

HTC is only way to go. Had few HTC's before and just got HTC one. Love it.
Samsung and LG I never had one and will never buy one.
About iPhone, Apple is really good at marketing...Comment

I got the s4 a couple weeks back. Loving it so far minus all the bloatware. I upgraded from an old Samsung Galaxy Q so it was a huge difference in terms of cpu, ram screen size etc.. etc..ICQ: 16544251 - Skype: gator37 @ eastlink.ca - email: yngwie @ isys.caComment

One other major point I want to add about the benefits of Android smartphones: My HTC Evo 4G LTE can play every video file type I have dragged and dropped into it with the free MX Video Player app: .AVI (incl. Xvid & Divx codecs), Flash (both .flv & .asf), Windows Media (.WMV) and Quicktime (.mov) as well as .MPEG. It can play all streaming media in the native browser including the still ubiquitous Flash.
Can IPhone play all of these type of video files? Or do you have to add video through iTunes and go through some cockamamie conversion process?Comment

The iPhone can play all video types except for Flash...which wasn't a real issue for me since Flash video isn't as significant as it used to be. Most video playing sites or platforms are offering HTML 5 videos so its not really an issue for iPhone anymore.
However I still see all the benefits of having an android which is why I purchased a Galaxy S4...so I could give it a proper user test and if it could take the place of my iPhone.
So far the iPhone still feels nicer and much more stable and easier to use than my S4.
I'm gonna stick it out for another week or so before I make my final judgement call.Comment

My brother in law has an S4 that his work bought him and an iphone 5 for personal. He doesn't like the Andriod OS anywhere near as well as the iOS but does like the phone itself. There are other video players for iOS. This one plays pretty much anything:

I got the BB Z10 a couple months ago and love it. Great handing of email and all social media in the hub. Great OS. Plus has an android loader, so you can sideload most Android apps if something you want is not in BB World, such as Netflix. And hands down the best virtual keyboard I have used to date.XXXRewards - Karups - Boyfun - Jawked. Paying on time since 1997. Contact me at brent [at] xxxrewards.comComment

you hit the nail on the head.Android is designed to be customized by each user for their needs so the native apps might seem less then Apple but luckily you can find custom apps and widgets to solve just about any need you have. Learn to Swipe which isn't hard, also voice recognition is far better then Siri which seems like retarded drunk in her responses.
Probably going to go pickup a new S4 myself today.
droid is better for tech savy folks who like to tinker and have time and tech resources to update and tweek stuff.
Iphone is for the general population who dont want to do all this, they might not get all the extras which droid can offer but they get a phone which works.
Kinda like pc vs mac back in the day. If you wanted to do stuff with your pc, you had to install drivers and sometimes move internal switches, most people did not want to deal with that. MACs were more user friendly but you had less "techo" freedom."Obscenity is whatever gives the Judge an erection." -- Author UnknownComment

I got a 3G years ago and loved it. Then I got a 3GS and thought it was good but found I needed to jailbreak my phone to install a couple of apps and productivity features.
After getting a little annoyed living with Apple's walled garden/prison I decided to give Android a try with the Galaxy Nexus. They say you only fall in love once but I did twice.
A couple of months ago I decided to try the iPhone 5. I don't know why I really don't. It's sitting in the top drawer of my desk and I went back to the Galaxy Nexus.Comment
