    Can a non u.s citizen get a home in usa?

    Hi guys
    The point its, im argentinean, and my gran mother its living in washington since 1960 (legally) and have her own apartment and want to sell or transfer to me. So, after i get the visa to go there, can i transfer this appartment to my name? or i cant? its easier that she sell this and then she give me the money?
    What do you think guys?

                  I've noticed one of the biggest worries of border agents if you are going to visit the USA is whether you might be a possibility of trying to stay in the USA, I would expect that if they found out you owned a house in the USA that you might even be a bigger risk to stay and might not want to let you in to visit, but I don't know for sure about that

                              people over 55 are treated differently, and they usually can show proof of owning residence and ties in Canada so they return every 6 months

                              in fact there is a recent push to allow snowbirds over 55 years old to stay in the usa for 8 months per year that is trying to go into law

                                                                          That will not change anything as to keep your universal health insurrance in Canada, you must NOT reside more then 6 months minus one day OUTSIDE of Canada ....

                                                                          As for owning property, as asked by OP, no problem , but you may need to pay it cash as US banks are not keen on mortgages for foreigners.

                                                                          I had to do that 3 years ago.

                                                                              Foreigners can own land in the US. If you have enough cheddar and you buy a home, you can even get a visa.

                                                                                  It's easier to buy a home here than it is to lease / rent it.. I had no problems buying a house even though I only had a 2 year visa..

                                                                                              Yes you can own a home in the USA if your a non-us citizen, I own multiple properties and I'm Canadian, I also have a work visa from a business investment. As far as investing $500,000+ or a large amount of money on a home in the USA , you will not get any type of Visa or Green Card to live here. The Visa laws state that the investment can not be in residential real estate. If your intention is to come and live here with the house being your foot in the door, you'll have alot of explaining to do at US Customs.

                                                                                                  It hasn't passed yet, but the "housing" visa scheme is embedded in the "Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013"

                                                                                                                  the friggin Germans and UK fuckers were scooping up foreclosures as investment properties.. some of them getting a half dozen at once.. we'd bid 6k over asking price and kept getting outbid.

                                                                                                                      If it is the same as Canada then yes absolutely. I moved to Canada in 2010 with a 1 year work permit and bought a house, it wasn't anymore difficult than buying Scotland, they only needed proof I had a substantial deposit and it was good enough for the mortgage companies.
