Why dont most people want to believe they are being marketed to?

When it comes to products and personalities such as celebs?

It seems like anytime people see an image of a celeb (such as the latest Katy Perry one) they go all apeshit over how a magazine photoshops the image to make it look better, just like shitty food places like McDonalds do with their menu images.

Its been going on for years, why do people still not want to believe they are being sold a vision of the product its promoter wants them to see?

did you watch 60 minutes last night? now EVERYONE is being marketed to. in the 3 seconds it takes for you to enter a business, face recognition software is able to scan your features, cross reference facebook(or other social media sites) to find your image and info, and then instantly tell that business what your preferences are....

What happens if it scans my face and comes back blank? Someone might have to ask me if I need help!

And how many retailers have you come across that actually have that technology in place?

Most places I know of employ people who barely know how to work a cash register.

Wait, so if I go into a store, they can know (based on whatever social info on me is not private) that the reason I'm in the store is to shop for my mother in law's birthday and that she likes dangly earrings?

Every business should definitely invest in that software so their clerks can only waste their time 90% of the time instead of 100%
