i believe that connection is cleverly revealed in "eyes wide shut". it's super cool how they also included these reveals in mainstream movies, just to fuck with us.

There is also a documentary called Room 237 about The Shining and supposedly all of the subtext in the movie from the Apollo landing the holocaust to Native American genocide.

A few months back Kubrick's grandson and daughter did an AMA on Reddit. Someone asked them about the moon landing and The Shining. they laughed it off and said that Kubrick was a very detailed man. These crazy details exist in many of his movies.

There has also been some pieces written by long time Kubrick assistance that pretty much debunk most of the conspiracy theories surrounding this movie.

The Shining is a fascinating movie on multiple levels. Because of that you can read into it what you want which is the basis for all good conspiracy theories.

I have friends who have written a script on this and have a lot of interesting research.

It's become a more fictitious piece, like this past year's The Master.

But the theory is interesting to say the least. I don't doubt that we landed on the moon, but I do believe that some of what was shown to the people was reproduced here on earth to some extent.

I take analysis like this with a grain of salt, but it's an interesting way of looking at films.

There is no denying that Kubrick was a fantastically talented director, almost peerless in his abilities. I have read the Shining and seen the movie many times, and it's clear that Kubrick threw away most of King's novel and kept only what he was interested in. the aspects of the film that are not associated with the novel were Kubrick's ideas alone.

do I actually think Kubrick staged the moon landing footage? No. I do enjoy this approach to film analysis though.

Somebody posted a 10 min. video clip a few months back from a current day producer who went into great detail explaining how the filming, at that time, could have only been possible the way it was presented to the public. He stated that it absolutely could not have been faked due to technological limitations. I don't know much about film, but it was pretty interesting. I believe he had won some awards as well, so not just some bored hack.

Conspiracy theories are nice. It allows those that don't produce to feel good about themselves. Probably saves us a few massacres a year.

All interior scenes of the shining were shot at a specially constructed set in England. Exterior shots were done at the Timberline Lodge in Oregon.

therefore, if the Timberline has that carpet it was added after the film was released.

Where I was a the Timberline a few years back there was no carpeting, hardwood floors everywhere.
