The crazy part of this is that I'm ALL FOR eradicating the truely sicko illegal shit...

but, the flipside is with our current administration and their hate of even mellow porn, where is the attack gonna stop?

are they gonna use that same info/db to go after blacksonblondes, facial sites, pissing sites, etc?

big brother is running loose in the streets

agreed.

IMHO, CP needs to be hunted down, but that might just open the flood gates.

I have to agree. All the illegal stuff should be banned by Visa and the purveyors hunted down, put in prison and have the keys thrown away. But with the religious right gaining so much strength with our current genius of a president where are the first amendment lines going to be drawn.

I think it's great that they're targetting CP sites. Thing about targeting bestiality sites though, i mean, they're legal in places like Holland, right? They're not going to be allowed to use Visa on their sites anymore.

What happens when Visa's morals say that a golden shower site is unacceptable. It might be legal in your state, but all of a sudden, you're not allowed to process Visa cards. Bah.

It's the animal rights people that are raising hell about beastality sites...

Sounds like a great program to me. The fact that we don't hear of any innocent webmasters who were targeted is pretty good indication its not being abused.

Anybody stupid enough to open a cp site should get 99 years anyway, not just for the crime but to help prevent them polluting the gene pool.

You'd have to really be a few fries short of a happy meal to advertise and spam cp, and yet, it happens every day.

As Dynamite says, read that other thread. I just posted on it, but will copy what I posted there for those of us that are lazy

Maybe, maybe not. They might try the big online sites first, or even the little ones. While my case was over 2 years ago and not associated with any new crackdown, it happened nonetheless. I ran DyannaDoes.com, and if you want to read a little about it, there's an article on The Adult Webmaster that was written by my attorney. ****edit wrong link - see my next post below for the right ones ****

And you might also visit ****edit wrong link - see my next post below for the right ones **** as it has a lot of links to useful sites plus articles on specific topics.

...to an extent though (and I know this going to sound a little contentious for free speech etc...) but does it really matter what they ban (presuming bans are effective when passed down from VISA)?

If they restrict processing to purely 'vanilla' sex, christ if they go all fucking Japanese on us and ban pink, it just means some people will have to change their content - porn and the business (money) associated with it will still be made, there's no reason to think any different - porn is a huge industry nobody sensible (I do not believe the religious right are that strong yet) wants to damage a strong area of the western worlds economy.

What it will do is crush those who at the moment damage all aspects of the legitimate porn industry, those who make money from catering to areas which rely on inadequacies in local law enforcement to operate, not from clever marketing, or design, or in fact any sort of creativity at all.

" "We have a Web site profile and run sophisticated Web crawlers and spidering techniques to search for child pornography and someone using the Visa network," says Michael Stannard, a managing director in the London offices of InteCap."

After reading this i wonder how true some of what they are saying is ?
I would very much like to see all CP site closed but is it possible for a spider to crash through HT Access protection , i didnt think that was possible yet ?

Old news, the IPSPs have been reporting sales by URL for more than a year now, and Visa has a third party they pay to surf porn sites and see what is on them...

They are more interested in protecting their brand image than anything else, I suspect.
