Health Insurance Costs In The US?

If I came over for 6 months, I think that is the max I can stay for, would it be possible to get health insurance and what sort of costs am I looking at?

Also if I forgot to go home would it still be possible to get insurance?

I don't know if you can buy it or not. Not sure how that works.

We buy private insurance for my wife and daughter and it runs me about $450 a month. Wife's part is about $350, daughter (21) is about $100. $50 copay for office visits, $1000 deductible for hospital stuff. So, not great insurance but it is what we decided we could afford.

I don't know, I just pay tax and healthcare is free then.

Yes - I thought everyone had realized that a long time ago...

I have wanted to go to the USA for a while - I just don't think 6 months would do it justice - I want to experience living their - It has to be a couple of years at least.

I earn my money from the States anyway - It means I would be spending that money in the US instead of the UK - I wouldn't feel guilty about being an 'illegal' for a while...

America's healthcare is no better than socialist healthcare. Don't tell an American that though. They might shoot you for being a commie.

Yeah, all us Americans think our system is the best in the world that is why we have been arguing about how to improve the system for the past 50 years.

Speaking from personal experience - unless stuff has changed - you can only stay for 3 months max on a tourist visa.

If you intend to 'overstay' Purchase travel insurance in the UK, that covers you for a couple of years. That way, you are covered if you need medical, but will have to pay for it at the time. You can however get a refund, when you return to the UK

IANAL - But thats just my thoughts

                  Enjoy!

Thanks - I was wondering about travel insurance - My bank might even cover me as I have travel insurance as a bonus on my account.

Canadians can stay here up to six months for vacation (well, one day less). It's why South Florida has so many snowbirds.

I wonder if it's different for them.

Although I do know a french couple that seem to be here half the year, too.

That's interesting to know - My worry is more that I could fall over, break my leg and spend the rest of my life paying for it - If I did stay as an 'Illegal' I would not want to cost money - However, I would need to protect myself...

"I haz indigence" Doctor says it works every time. As for paying for it. Give them US address. Do not declare immigration status. When you leave the bill does not follow.

The system is so corrupt here. It does not matter anymore.

I just looked up the latest visa requirements for a UK traveller to America.

If you apply for, and are granted an official tourist visa, a B2 or B1/B2, you could stay up to six months. However, it's up to immigration at the airport to decide how long you can stay. Most tourists get 6 months.

If though, like I did it, you just fly in without getting a visa, you are granted access for 90 days (3 Months) automatically, under the 'Visa Waver' agreement between the UK and the USA
