    Covering Up Tattoos

Any producers/photographers here had success in covering medium+ sized tattoos?

were they colored or just black?

Cost isn't too much of a concern

Apparently there is an airbrushing technique?

there are make ups to help cover tattoos however I would suggest shooting with post in mind along with the cover up.... i.e. make sure the area to be airbrushed is clean of fingers etc so that it's easier to touch up in post..

yeah i can do just about everything post, but with a forearm tattoo that wraps around, it would make editing 150 sets very hard and time consuming. as you know, when theyre on the edges, its more time consuming

thats why for once, im considering going another route

not everything just the finesse.. do the heavy lifting with a cover up... call a good effect house they will know what to use, or a theater supply place

you'd need to know all the things you'd need, right powder i guess, some sort of product to reduce the colour of the tattoo, etc

i guess i could get all the products myself and attempt, just thought there might be easier ways, such as airbrushing, or some sort of sheet you could put over and then blend it in, etc

theres definitely a few techniques which im aware of, just sort of wanting to know whats best, withotu cost being a concern

wonder how something like this would work:

              http://www.airbrushmakeup.com/personal/compare/

also i dont really buy any of the before and after pics, lol it could all be done with photoshop ;)

I tried Dermablend, but it doesn't really cover that well for the way most adult photographers shoot. For one, it kind of looks like a bruise on the model's skin over the tattoo like someone else said. And it rubs off even if ones tries to "set" it in. At least in my experience.

It's one thing to just pose a model for a fashion shoot or something and cover a tattoo, but when they start taking clothes off and on and masturbating on video and stuff over a few hours time, I didn't really like the result. I know they do it in Hollywood movies to cover people's big tattoos, but maybe they are using something different.

In hollywood movies they use a special waterproof makeup as the first layer and then airbrush on top. It can take a couple of hours to cover up huge tattoos and make it look great. It also lasts through hours of shooting and requires a special remover to remove it. It's the only way to really cover up a tattoo properly. Hire a movie makeup artist with that experience and equipment.

Is there anything you don't do? You forgot to say you own tattoo studios worldwide.

Also, read the original post. It's not that kind of cover up.

Anyway, as for the post at hand, Google what brides use. I think it's already been mentioned though. You can never tell in their photos. At least the editing shouldn't be as tough as long as you get mostly there.

another thing, im shooting her for an entire week or two. so whatever i do, ill have to do each day possibly.

so going to a pro in l.a when im shooting in palm springs. well that could be tough, unless its a technique that could be kept for a few days if she didn't wash that area or was completely waterproof

Yep, I deal with this all the time. I found not hiring girls with big tatts works well for me. Why anyone would waste their time and resources dealing with tatts before or in post is a mystery to me.

i always heard dermablend, but you need to get the exact match to her shin tone otherwise it will not blend or look good.

because the investment is little and the profit margin is huge. for 2 weeks or work? when you can make 60k a year net for years , from 2 weeks of work, you do it ;)

Maybe take her to Sephora personally and have someone there match a tattoo concealer for her skin tone. They can probably also give application tips.

yeah thats my backup plan, the thing with that stuff, its generally makeup that rubs off.

i bought an airbrush and compressor, with medical grade waterproof concealer, i will post the results here.

if that doesn't work, i will drop by sephora. see if theres anything they can do, if that doesn't work either

then ill shoot her with it, no big deal. but it'd be nice to know if the airbrush technique works. it'd give myself alot more options

A Tattoo is the only comittment some people will make in their life, so why not make it permanent ink that needs to be seared from your skin cells if you change your mind.

Anybody see that Worst Tattoo show? The people that fix those abominations are seriously talented. They just look at the piece of shit tattoo and say "ok, I can put something really cool right here over this crap."
