i want to kill my camera

wtf am I doing wrong?

why does there have to be 4000 different settings for this shit? I just want to snap some damn pics without taking a fucking college course on how to operate a camera.

if I set it for one thing and get a passable picture, it seems like, if I take 3 steps in any direction, those settings are no longer any good....

why the hell does this shit have to be so fucking complicated?

was kinda hoping one of you photographers would pop in here and say "All you need to do is press this magic button on the side and all your pictures will be perfect"

but I guess that's not going to happen...

Spend $200 and buy yourself a point & shoot digicam. All you have to do is turn them on, let the autofocus do its thing, and press the button.

I have a Minolta X-700 35mm SLR with $5k worth of lenses and filters, and and a $199 Fuji Finepix 2650 2.0MP. In most situations I get probably 95% of the SLR quality with the Finepix, and none of the hassle.

After making my last post I thought.. "Boy would it suck if it was the $199 digicam he was asking about."

i don't know... the pics are always blurry or dark or both
all different conditions... broad daylight, indoors, nighttime... doesn't seem to matter... I can't take a decent pic to save my life.

sell it and get the coolpix 5000

OR a D100... pretty nice for the price. no, wait, that's probably more complicated. never was a fan of the series you have. it programmed auto it *should* be ok, you might try resetting all the custom stuff to factory default, if you've changed any of those...

the flash is working, no? perhaps it's a setting with the flash. i can't remember if that camera has nikon's matrix metering, but if it does you want that ON. matrix metering kicks ass.

the flash works, but most of the time I think that's the problem.... the pics look weird or it darkens something so you can't see it... like, if I take a pic inside during the day, with the flash, the windows all come out black... i don't understand that.... there's tons of light coming through them. If I turn the flash off, then the room is dark. Or shit comes out all blurry... i hate that.

Well maybe the camera really is fucked up and not you.
Why don't you take it down to a photoshop and let one of the tecs snap a few pictures and see? Then at east you will know whats up.

is there a manual setting on the camera?

if there is you need to set it accourding to the light readings the camera gives you.
if there is Manual setting there should be shutter speed priority.
Set it on that. set the shutter speed on 100.
Make sure the light on the subject is brighter than the background so that the lens which should be on AF ( auto focus) can adjust to the subject.
If you do not have a light meter then just point the camera on the subject and try to find out if the camera gives you light reading (I have never used that camera so I can't tell you where its at) but you should be able to find it at the bottom of your view finder in -/+ spectrum line format. Once you find it then change the Fstop(aperature) so that the pointer is in the middle of the light spectrum line or slightly towards the positive.

let me know what happens
