Nah. She's not really classic rock, IMO. She's 80s pop/cheeze metal.
Bah. Close my eyes forever is about as classic as rock gets.
I've seen her perform in person, I think you must have her confused with someone else. Debbie Harry was more pop than anything, I don't see you arguing that one though.

Blondie was punk / new wave, and actually I did reply to another poster who mentioned Debbie. We'll have to agree to disagree on "Close My Eyes Forever."
I always thought Lita was a T&A cheese queen who made completely forgettable pop metal. Not classic rock.
Very incomplete list. You left out Patti Smith, Blondie, Joan Jett to name a few.
From what you have though, it's a toss up between Grace Slick and Janis.
Yeah, I didn't want to make the list too long. I did consider Patti, Debbie & Joan. I like all three, but Patti & Debbie were punk. I probably should have included Joan.
Lita ford, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie were all in the runaways together.
Yeah. Didya see the movie that came out a few years back? Dakota Fanning (looking smoking hot as Cherie) and Kristen Stuart. It was ok. It was basically a vanity project for Joan. Some good music in it. Worth seeing if you liked the band.

Ahh I see the stick in your craw, you simply don't like that song which was her biggest hit by the way. I guess there's no accounting for taste, but I can agree to your 'agree to disagree' thing. But anyone who's actually listened to more of her stuff than just the songs that made the radio knows she's anything but pop, and anything but cheesy, or a sellout, or anything of that nature. There's a ton of her live performances on youtube, you might want to give it a look, especially if you're going to set yourself up as an authority on what constitutes rock and what doesn't.

Sorry if you're a fan and think she should be on the list, but since I created the poll, I had to set my own parameters, right? Lita doesn't make the cut in my poll. I don't need to look at live videos. I know her singles - which is what really matters when considering a "#1" of all time - the famous stuff. Her music was typical formulaic 80s crap, and her voice was unremarkable. She played up the T&A to sell to horny pimple-faced kids. She doesn't compare to the other chicks on this list, IMO.

Yes, but questions such as this are always heavily opinion based. I'll admit it was tricky picking the chicks for this poll, but I didn't want the list to be too long. At this point the only one I think I really snubbed was Joan Jett. Ah well.
Sorry if you're a fan and think she should be on the list,
No, what I said was that she deserves a 'mention' in the thread. Nowhere did I say she should be in your little poll.

Well, as much as you think it so she still isn't pop or whatever else you personally think she is. However, you do realise that metal ('cheese' or otherwise), pop, death metal, acid rock, prog rock, etc are all merely niches in the rock category? If you're going to start such a thread as this you really ought to know such basics, no?
She had a storied career spanning four decades, something most of the others mentioned in this thread (poll or otherwise) can't claim. Yet you in all your wisdom feel the need to quibble over her even being mentioned. Interesting.
You remind me of another guy on here years ago who wanted to start a "greatest rock guitarists" poll on his site and started a thread asking GFYers for our opinions. He started off by saying "And don't say Eric fucking Clapton, I hate that guy" or something to that effect. He then proceeded to argue and scoff at every second name that was offered up for his rather less than impartial 'poll'. Which of course lessened the legitimacy of not only his results but of his suitability as someone to run a music poll.
Please don't be that guy.
Like you said, it's all a matter of opinion. The guy running the poll should really be the one who is most gracious about allowing others to have theirs.
CD, he has been "that guy" for quite a while, imho.
He frames arguments to fit into his quite narrow view and anyone who attempts to add anything is wrong. Read his gun threads.
A poll for "the #1 rock chick" should, to leave room for other opinions, include at least an "other" choice for those who do not think the op's choices are the best. But the op believes himself to be the end all and be all of all rock knowledge so he does not feel the need to allow room for other opinions.

Strictly imho of course.
If people ask why a particular person isn't in the poll I created, I'll give MY rational for not including them in MY poll. And yeah, some people asked. I explained why I decided to leave them off this short list.
If the thread was simply "Rock chicks" that would be a different matter, and I wouldn't argue with anyone. I guess I'll do that next time, so there's no bellyaching.

I'm still laughing at 'cheese metal' by the way.
It was my poll dude. I was just giving my opinion on Lita. It's different from yours and I guess you got bent about it. Nothing against you personally.

its a generational thing. to grantmercury the 80's are a joke and most popular music of that time is as well, hence why he calls it cheese rock. same thing will happen to him one day when a lot of music he grew up will be called cheese by future generations.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

No, I call it cheeze rock because by the mid 80s, rock became more about hairspray and image than anything else. (And even all of the ladies in the poll succumbed to it themselves, to a greater or lesser extent). Guitars took a back seat to keyboards. Everything was glossy and overproduced. Fucking power ballads clogging the airwaves. Horrid. Cheezy.
Of course there was some great music in the 80s. But in general it wasn't a great decade for rock, IMO.
