Dilemma about splitting scenes from DVD content. Opinions please.

    Hello all,

I'm using an adult CMS for the site I am building and the content I have comes from full DVDs, ranging from 1 hr to 3 hrs long. Now the adult CMS lets me split a DVD movie into scenes by inputting a specific time, but the time inputted must stay the same for every scene (ex. For a 1 hour long movie if I input 30 minutes it will create 2 scenes both 30 minutes each). However, it won't let me choose a custom length for each scene (ex. Make the first scene 25 minutes and the second scene 35 minutes).

The first scene in the DVD could be something like 9 minutes and the second scene could be around 25 min. Thus, if I input 30 minutes for the scene split feature, it will play all of scene one (9 min) up until the 21 minute mark of scene two before stopping. Then the final 9 minutes of scene two will play in the following 30 minute split and continue on to the DVDs third scene and end when the 30 minute mark has hit. What this basically means is that if I offer split download to customers I can't split scenes custom length to fit the actual scene itself, although I've seen plenty of sites that offer full DVDs with each scene of the DVD being a custom length (23:22, 34:11, 5:12, etc...) so they start and end at the right moment.

I'm wondering how to go about this situation since I already spent some good money and time on the CMS itself and I don't have time to do a custom CMS. I figure my options are the following:

    1) Go through my content again and edit my videos so that each scene from a DVD has its own separate movie page.

    2) Just leave the split download the way it is and hope that people won't mind that the split download section showing 'Scene 1' will sometimes show scene 1 and half of scene 2 from the DVD, for example.

    3) Just offer whole movie download and put thumbnails on the movie page showing the minutes and seconds each scene from the DVD is supposed to start.

Is there anything else I could do?

I appreciate any input from the board. Thanks.

I would imagine that whoever provides the script could help you with this.

    I'd start there first.

    Spend you some brain.

I've contacted the CMS tech support and they said they have no plans to let you input a custom length for each scene with it. So I'm forced to try and work my way around this.

sounds like the scenes on the other sites are edited/rendered first, and not done within the cms (if it's the same one, obviously). Which basically means doing option 1, and the split function within the cms used to basically put out a part 1/part2 type update of the same scene.

Ah. Well if I edit the scenes on my end first I hope I'm able to put multiple source files on the same page with the CMS. Some DVDs I have are those silly ones from the 90s where they have costumes and storylines and it would be odd to have each scene on a separate page. Just contacted the Elevated X tech support to see if I'm able to do that. Thanks for your input.

Confirmed. The Elevated X Adult CMS has an optional video editor that will let you watch a movie within your CMS admin panel and set in/out points and export the movie. Generally this is used for creating promo trailer videos but could easily be used to cut a full DVD into scenes.

Sounds like exactly what you need.

If you have access to the source code, this should be fairly easy for most proficient programmers.

Now finding one of those might be tricky.

                Hi AJ,

Since the default format for the trailers in the video editor is mp4 I was wondering if I can set it up so that I can make trailers/scenes in multiple formats like mobile and wmv just like how the video encoder makes multiple formats.

                Thanks.

This isn't really a question I can answer on a forum but it might be doable.

Please submit a support ticket for this and one of my guys will help you.
